Dismissive Doctors

More than a few doctors with which I've consulted in the past few years either consider people too young to have serious medical issues. Then when you reach that "certain age", they say things to the effect, "Well, you're getting older. You have to expect these things."

Have you found this to be the case?

yes debodin i have--their are only 2 doctors on this side of town and they are both lousy---so i just have to deal with it

I know what you mean. There are only 3 "local" doctors here, none of which I am confident in, but otherwise it would necessitate a 60 mile round trip to go to one in "the big city".

My PCP says we better schedule some tests or make an appointment with a specialist to see what is happening.

Not me personally, but I have heard from friends who believe their doctors are dismissive. I wouldn't put up with that. Luckily I live in a major metro area and there are plenty of doctors to sift through.

I live in Geezer Nation, so doctors are a dime a dozen. But to be fair I've never had any issues with any of my doctors.

Good for you! Drives me bonkers when people treat their doctors like God’s and their doc can do no wrong which also includes rude off the cuff comments made towards their patients.

Doctors are like plumbers. If they can't do the job I hire them to do with the understanding that I'm the one paying the bills and therefore deserving of respect, I'll find someone else.

Don't know why that's such a difficult concept to grasp. When I was a kid, I was running barefoot when a stick jabbed into my foot and broke off. With no anesthesia (or antiseptic for that matter), a doctor dug that thing out of my arch, muttering the whole time about me being a big baby even though I didn't even cry.

He taught me a valuable lesson that day. They either behave themselves or they're gone.
