Do any of you use Meal Delivery kits?

You know, like Hello Fresh, Blue Apron etc. Ron would like to subscribe to something like that, so we're not spending so much time in the kitchen after work. We both like to cook, but sometimes after a long work day it gets to be a drag, especially because we really do try to eat healthy, clean, gluten free (for him more than me) less meat, so most of what we eat is from scratch.

But I’ve been hesitant, because the various meal kits I’ve tried are labor intensive with an endless list of ingredients, and I hate that. Under normal circumstances, when I’m looking for recipes, I’ll bypass the ones that have more than 5 or 6 ingredients and/or steps, because it’s annoying! I'm thinking of trying HungryRoot, which is a different kind of Meal Delivery kit.

First of all it's plant-based, and the service is equal parts grocery store and meal kit service. After you take a short quiz to determine your food preferences and how many servings of food you want, you'll get a grocery list of food and snacks, along with recipes on how to use them together. Or not — one of the benefits of the service not being a traditional meal kit is that you can mix up ingredients however you want. The recipes are short, just 4 or 5 ingredients, and the instructions are not detailed

Anyway, just wondering about your experiences (if any) with this kind of service?

Nope! Not me! I don't use any kind of delivery service except mail in my mailbox. I like to go out & shop for myself. More fun, better prices and it's nice to see people, even if they are strangers since I don't like being some sort of hermit!

Our daughter gifted us a weeks worth of Chefs Plate meals. They were simple to make, and were all very tasty. I can't remember exactly what the meals were though .. it was over a year ago.

There are freezer packs inside. All ingredients, very fresh, from veggies to meats. A great idea for working couples who are busy and don't want to spend a lot of time on food prep. It can get pricey though.

She sometimes orders from Hello Fresh as well. I think she prefers one to the other, but I don't know which. Daughter loves to cook, and they don't order these kits regularly - just when they're super busy.

Here in Toronto, they even offer Keto meal kits. I'll have to let my nephew know, as his wife has been on a keto diet for several months.

We have never tried those meal kits, like you we eat fresh produce, well balanced, plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, less meat and fish at least twice a week. There's only the two of us, so what we do is cook for at least four meals, sometimes more. That means we can chill or freeze a future meal, thus reducing the cooking time.

After looking at them, they seemed pricey and I still would have to cook and DH would be doing dishes. No real benefit for us.

I agree.

IMO they come under the heading of entertainment or education.

A nice way to learn about different styles of cooking or transitioning your diet to a different way of eating.

I don’t see them as a time or money saving option.

Well not Meal Delivery Kits but I have ordered from the grocery store their kits and they were ok. I can cook so I see no need and if I really wanted to order food instead of cooking at home; I would just order from my favourite take-out restaurant.
Well yeah but we seldom order takeout and cook everything from scratch pretty much so Meal Delivery kits eliminate the shopping and meal planning which is a timesaver for us since we both work fulltime.
