Saw the first gnat of the year. I found these icky sticky fly catchers in the cabinet that you would typically hang somewhere. But today I live in an apartment with high ceilings and that wasn't practical.
So a recent empty large laundry detergent bottle has been decorated with one length of sticky wrap and it also boasts an empty paper towel roll atop it with a second sticky wrap. Sitting on an isolated shelf where it won't get bumped or accidentally touched.

The last house I owned had a sump pump that would shoot excess water out from under the house, where the basement rested on rocks. Very cool, but the pipe on the outside of the house was short and smooth and would just dump the water about a foot beyond the back basement wall. I'm sure it was valid building code but it was stupid.
So I got a long plastic drainage pipe from the hardware store and was able to zip tie it with multiple ties. I didn't bother to trim the tips. It worked great.
I had to sell the house about a year later and during those at the last minute negotiations the buyers complained because it wasn't professional. I told the real estate lady I would take 5 minutes and remove it as it did not come from the builder. They called back, no no don't remove it, no problem.
