I think it comes from French rootsForgive my ignorance, but what does Dou mean? I 'googled' it and the only reference was to Dou Gerrit who was a pupil of Rembrandt. I doubt if he had a bidet.
I don't have a bidet either.
I have a hand held bidet's attached to the toilets (plural?) hanging next all my toilets. It's more effective, space saving, and money saving. I've done this for 30 years I think. I don't feel clean without one. I have attached them myself in the past though it's been a long time. Here's a pic of one of mine

Yeah they're just a lot more handy & efficient than the extra seat styleWe had that in our house in Thailand and most public toilets have them.
