Do you believe in ghosts?

I've never seen one, and I don't. But I'd love to hear your stories. I'm sure Halloween is a good time for those. I'm equally sure that if I saw a ghost, I'd probably believe in them. It would have to be a real see-able ghost though, and maybe talk, for me not to be worried I was hallucinating.

Also, just because I don't believe in ghosts doesn't mean I think it is a fact that they don't exist. I think it is possible that they do.

i kept hearing strange noises at night when I was going to sleep, in the house I live in now. I didn't want to ask my friend/landlord about it because his parents (now deceased) were the only people who ever lived here, except when my friend was a child.

I was thinking that there were ghosts, and I didn't like that. Eventually, I figured it out. The dog was sleeping on hearth with his feet up against the bricks. Every time he moved his legs, the noises resulted. Boy, was I relieved!

I'm not sure but I had no doubt when I was a kid.
My mom and grandma would tend to the graves of our relatives because the cemetery was in walking distance, we usually went after dinner to water the flowers.
One evening it was near dusk and I walked over to a very small old mausoleum that always intrigued me. One window was broke so I peaked in as far as my head would go.
I saw a few drawers, some dried up flowers and a bench on the old stone floor. Shadows seemed to be dancing around because of the setting sun.
I said, Wow! in a loud voice which I was sure the ghosts responded too.
It was years later that I realized it was an echo of my own voice.
That mausoleum is still there and when I visit my own mom and dads grave, passing it sends a chill up my spine.

Do you believe in ghosts?

Sure, used to be my favorite Halloween costume, and I was real, so far as I know. All it took was a sheet with a couple of eye holes.

I believe in ghosts like I believe in lots of good myths, they can be scary or great fun. Like Little Red Riding Hood, Brer Rabbit, or Alice in Wonderland, very real fictional characters. Don't bust my bubble, it will make campfire stories a lot more dull.

I have no choice but to believe because I saw one in my apartment a few years ago. Here's what I posted about it in another ghost thread:
Several years ago I was standing in my bathroom, primping in the mirror. Suddenly, through the mirror, I saw a man standing in my hallway just looking at me. I didn’t turn around to look at him directly and I wasn’t frightened (much to my surprise). He wasn’t “transparent” like I imagine a ghost would be. I wondered later if he was actually a Jinn. He had salt and pepper hair, was either a light skinned Black man or a tanned White man. He had on a blue, black and white plaid shirt and seemed rather short. About maybe 45 seconds to a minute later he seemed to just float sideways into our studio room. I didn’t recognize him and never saw him again. Being a “skeptical believer” I questioned what I saw. But after relaying the story to a few friends in different conversations, they all said that I gave too much detail to have imagined it.

I also have a friend who has a resident ghost in her house. She's been telling me about it for years. She said her son used to be afraid to go down there because there was a ghost but for a long time she didn't believe him. Then she finally saw it herself. Years later, one day while we were on the phone and she went "Oh sh*t!" I asked what was wrong and she said she just saw "Tophat", a name she and her son had given him, go into her house. From where she stood next to her car in her driveway, someone would have to squeeze by her to get up the steps to her front door. She sounded scared so I told her to go in the house and say "Que pasa amigo...what's happenin'?" It made her laugh. When she went in, she didn't see him. But a few weeks before that sighting, she said a friend who was helping her clean out her basement came and told her he saw a man in a top hat down there. She had never told him about the ghost, let alone it's nickname.

My ex boyfriend, a Jamaican, who used to ridicule people who believe in "Duppies" (ghosts) had gotten married but we remained friends. I hadn't heard from him in quite awhile and was surprised when he called me to ask a question about ghosts. He said he went into his young daughter's room one night and saw an "old woman" sitting on her bed. It scared him to death. I told him what I thought he should do...I forgot the details now...this was decades ago....and he never called back so maybe it worked. At the time he and his family lived in an old house.

I also know other reliable people, who's stories I absolutely believe, that have seen them. @feywon

A bit like UFO's.. most sightings can be explained by natural occurrences, but there are a small number which remain unexplained.
I often feel that buildings can acquire something of the personality of the residents and events which have happened there. This is almost like a recording device and some people are more sensitive to receiving this. Does this count as 'ghosts'? I certainly believe that significant events leave some sort of 'record' behind.

We have a ghost that visits us every once in a while - he's buried up the road in the family cemetery. The German immigrants were given land grants in this area of Texas and he was given this area. He came from Bromberg, Germany and was buried in the 1800's.

Figure he's checking up on his land now.

I don't believe in ghosts, ESP, telekinesis, reincarnation, acupuncture, UFOs, Tarot, numerology or astrology. Let me know if I've missed anything.
Well JB...I'm psychic and have been for a very long time. I have told my predictions to people before they happened (usually while expressing concern to friend, co-workers and family about an impending event) and it's noted when they come true that I had told them. It's happened with small, insignificant things as well as heavy things such as deaths. Most of my psychic experiences come via precognitive dreams, some via "knowings". But of course, there are charlatans out there.

i came to SF this morning intending to just share some stories. But i discovered a member i really like was upset with me about my responses to another post and spent most of what time i have before getting to chores/errands responding to her concerns. So for now i'll just answer the question.

For me it is not a matter of 'belief' but rather of making sense of what i've experienced. i don't really 'believe' in so-called supernatural/paranormal because if it happens to someone or between people (Telepathy, empathic knowing) then it is natural/normal---we just don't fully understand it.

i'll come back and share some experiences later today or this week. (Typing easier on desktop and am usually only on it first hour or so in the morning.)

As they say on the internet, your mileage may vary. There are so many things about which I know so little, but life is for learning.

i have one like that, the first year i was here i could feel her walking with me as i walked around our acreage, also watching me when i was baking. i'll share how i came to realize who that one was later today or this week. i have some 'must do chores' and had something come up elsewhere i felt i had to respond to at length this morning. She's not a problem, in fact it seems she and the others have realized how much we love this place.
