Do you belong to a "Vets" organization?

Tried to join the local VFW several years ago. Well, about 15yrs ago I guess.
Ended up filling out an application twice and twice the application was "lost/misplaced".
Didn't try a third time.

Way back when active duty Navy, I joined the Fleet Reserve Association (FRA)
FRA had a presence in Guantanamo Cuba and joined there because it was a happening party place on weekends.
I was never stationed in Guantanamo but went there three or four times for shipboard repair training.
Eventually let that membership lapse.

Do you belong to a "Vets" organization? VFW, DAV, Am Leg. etc?

I don't. When I did think of joining, the WWII crowd weren't there with open arms for us Vietnam Vets. Maybe things have changed?
Yes things have changed. After my VietNam service in the Navy I shared the VFW experience with the then dominant "Class of 45" and never went back. There are already several long threads on this topic here on SF.

I joined the VVA.
The others, at my time back home, had no respect for Vietnam so I avoided any involvement. Now, of course things have changed. Never the less I remembered how they looked at Vietnam vets, at the time. I joined the VVA.

Thought about it when I got back, for a little bit. Decided I didn't want to live in the past.
I was with Cav but my platoon stayed on the ground we pulled guard duty we were artillery never used , guarding Huey's as far as one could see some OH scout choppers so when you say 1st Cavalry Division which is patch on my old field jacket other Vets think of air infantry and I did NOT see any actual combat so never joined any group .

As everyone here knows the Cav was in time disbanded as got bit out of hand , think now back .

Lots of Vets here in Florida as retire from all over the country fleeing snow / ice so several organizations .

@NotCompSavy , when our landing craft would beach in Vinh Long we would go to the, 7th of the 1st Cav compound because they had a little bar there. Going through the gate, overhead was a banner that read" "If you ain't Cav you ain't shit". Those guys were a little crazy. 😅

As you know those Hueys were work horses some would come back full of holes , get patched up and go out again .

The Cav became its own " military " and lost its way .
