Do you ever feel like something the cat dragged in?

Gaer

"Angel whisperer"
Just wanted to say, if it's all right, maybe we should all give thought to what people are going through before we write our cute, witty, clever remarks.
Sometimes they are going through rough times or are feeling pretty low. The one thing they don't need are snide or catty comments to make them feel like something men want to scrape off their boots.
You never know what people are feeling or what is happening in their lives. They maybe hurting in ways you can't even conceive.
Maybe it's things they don't want to voice on a forum. One or two mean words can put them over the edge.
The whole world is hurting right now. Sometimes people have bad days, hard days to get through.
That's all I wanted to say.

Thank you for saying this. You are very thoughtful and kind to have recognized that we can all use this reminder. I've seen some incredibly sarcastic and biting remarks here from people who obviously think they are being funny. They are not.

I agree 100%. We have no clue how hard it may be for someone else. Problem is the internet, unlike real life, makes it way too easy to insult someone and get away with it. You've got to know when you post anything on a social media platform someone could make you pay for it. :(

The only real issue is those going out of their way to insult someone, rather than instances whereby offence may be caused but not intended, (there may be a "halfway house", in terms of comments made deliberately "for the recipients good", i.e. to let them know where they might be behaving in an overbearing way!).

Sorry Gaer, I’m sure you mean well but I actually find this thread rather patronising and sanctimonious

I have rarely seen anything mean or offensive on SF, but I’m sure Matrix is more than capable of handling any complaints if a member is being targeted personally by ‘snide, catty comments’

All members have different styles of posting, I try to keep my posts lighthearted, which could be misconstrued as flippant

I like to feel relaxed and enjoy a site not like I’m ‘treading on eggshells’ watching every word in case another member is offended

Everybody goes through bad times, how are we to know what others members are dealing with ?

A kind word can brighten someone's day, especially from an unexpected source, I'm sure you'd agree with that, plus I agree it can sound a bit patronising to be told to "be a bit nicer", but I for one dont always realise when I'm coming across a little roughly, or uncaringly so an occasional reminder is okay I think.:whistle::giggle::giggle::giggle:

Well, that saved me a lot of typing.

Best use that little scroll feature when running across something you find offensive.

Gotta say, this is the nicest forum on this planet.

Sure, it ain't heaven......but it's right next door.

Now, where's that cat

Good point! Thanks for your opinion! it's true we can't be aware of everyone's moods and can't always tip-toe around! Thanks!
