Do you ever get comments from strangers about where you live ?

Positive or Negative.. ?

Not trying to prove anything, but I live in what Estate agents describe as a high end, exclusive.. area...

Whenever I tell people where I live there's always the same comment..

Today I got chatting to a very smartly dress Indian guy and his mother..in the bank. They were telling me they're off to India for 3 weeks.. etc.. I asked them where they lived.. which was an area in London... and they asked me where I lived.. when I told them.. the son said.. oh that's very posh... and the mother said.. I've visited there once... it was very beautiful...

Now.. I've lived here since '74... I'm well aware it's a nice place.. but it's only when strangers make remarks like these people did, that I actually think about it, and appreciate it..

So do you ever get comments about where you live.. and what do you think of them... ?

About all I get is "Oh, are you in one of those elegant new walled subdivisions or are you one of those townies?"

A lot of real-estate cash rich fruits and nuts have been coming here as they flee the sinking West Coast.

I haven't had this happen... but I *did* have someone show up at the door for an uncomfortable (for me) encounter a few years ago. The lady knocked and when I answered she said how lovely the grounds are. I thanked her and wondered (to myself) why she'd stop to say that. She started trying to look around me and peek inside and finally said she lived here in the past. So I guess she was curious about what I'd done with the interior. I suspect some folks would have invited her in for a tour, but I just wasn't comfortable with that... and really had no idea if what she claimed was even true. I finally just thanked her for stopping and said we love it here and she left. 🤷‍♀️

Not really. We live in a pretty middle class, older neighborhood. There haven't been covenants for years so you have some that take care of their houses and yards and some who don't. None too bad.
The good thing is, it's nondescript, safe-so far, and quiet.
The neighborhood is diverse with many retired, some active, military, and police personnel.
We happen to have a detective next door and a retired policeman two doors down. That gives us some peace of mind.
So, I guess if someone were to comment they would likely yawn. 😉

As a several decades Tahoe snow skier that wears clothing and uses gear that others view as an advanced experienced skier, on lifts a very common question is "Are you a local?" I most ski now at huge Heavenly Ski Resort that has a lot of international and out of state destination airline visitors due to the big Nevada casinos and entertainment.

My response is "NO (with a smile). I live in the land of jobs where peons like me can actually afford to go skiing every winter." That of course results in a quizzical look. Then follow up explaining most Tahoe skiers by far actually live in and drive from the San Francisco Bay Area.

No, not really. I live in a "New Town" which is busy transitioning to being a ragged old town. It's reputation is one of trashy celebrities, a horrible clipped accent, and pretty much nothing else. Having said all that, I don't recall anyone ever saying - "Whoa, you come from there! So cool!" :D
