I've literally just been for a walk..to try and cool down. It;s 1am and verrrry hot.. ..I went at midnight and was out for 30 minutes trusty torch in hand phone in pocket...
Most houses were in darkness, with all the windows open.. but there was a few with lights still on.. curtains open, tv's on..( I didn't know someone in my road has a huge cinema style TV, until tonight... )... anyway..why is it that everybody's houses.. livingrooms... and hallways look far nicer than mine looking at them with their lights or lamps on. ?..They all look lovely, and cosy.. .. and altho' I like my livingroom usually, it's not until I see other people's homes as I walk past that I think maybe mine seems a bit less glam or more dull..

Anyone else get this ?

Before I sold my house, I had the same experience as you described. I would walk the dog about 11 pm and see living rooms that looked just so nice from afar, and with soft lamps on, and looked so inviting.

My house & living room was nicely done, but others always looked so nice. I'm sure my neighbors thought the same about mine.

And your neighbors think the same about your house. Is it "the grass is always greener?"

well I don't have the blinds open when I put the lamps on, so no-one would have house envy with me..BUT...I do have the nicest front garden in the road..that's for sure.. AND..I believe I probably have the nicest back garden too.. give that when houses go up for sale here..I always have a look at their rear gardens, and none so far have been as nice as mine..even if their house is beautiful..:D

I've seen apartments that are decorated more nicely than mine but I don't envy. Mine is to my taste; it's cozy, nice and I'm comfortable. Even when I watch the shows about multi millionaires buying these fancy houses and condos, I don't envy them (actually, some of what is shown is garish). I do enjoy seeing the ones more to my taste though.

HollyDolly in beach hurricane areas there is a different lifestyle, so how to explain that is too long of a story. Taking a walk sounds like a great idea. I was trying to finish getting physically well when I first joined the forum. So, thanks for the motivation to stop being lazy and start moving around again.

Be careful out there at night HD. Or is that something that doesn't concern you because your area is so safe?

no it doesn't really concern me Diva.. it is a safe area.. altho' I'd be crazy not to keep my eyes peeled.. because crime can happen anywhere..

Tonight for example. there was no-one around.. as I turned around and walked back from where I'd gone to... I saw a car sitting at the end of the road with it's lights on, at a small junction, and no other traffic around so he should have pulled out..

It did cross my mind that they might have seen me, and maybe an opportunist robber.. well it could happen.. it just seemed so odd to be sat in the middle of the road like that.. so I walked quite quickly through a little cut through path that I know which goes down the side of some other houses, and came out about 50 feet from my house.. ..I could see they were still there by the headlights, but they couldn't see me..

It was probably nothing, but I'm not taking chances

My dog and I loved to inspect everyone else’s interiors.

There’s not likely a chance that you haven’t taken great photos of your gardens. You’ll want those in the event you decide to sell. I’m not impressed by the ones the realtors take.

Go to bed Holly. 😧😴😴😴😴😴😴.

Sweet @hollydolly, you are going through a major transition in your life. An unexpected one, not one of your choosing or any fault of your own. It is very hard the first couple of years to get grounded again. You might be looking in those windows seeing the experience you felt in your home. I am sure others have walked or driven by your home and felt the same way. Warm, cozy, safe from the outside world. We all want that feeling, that no matter what happens when we are out there in the world we can return to our refuge. When we lose part of our family by whatever means, death, divorce or our children going out into the world. We suffer, we grieve, we all have go find a way thru it. It does not come fast, it does not come easy but it will come. Be kind and patient with yourself.

All that matters is your comfort and peace. The old saying, home is where the heart is, is in fact real.

My early morning walk takes we through my city’s version of Beverly Hills.

I don’t envy the people, but I do notice that some homes and their owners seem to be in perfect harmony.

In many cases it’s not about what you see in the way of decorating and more about the care and attention to detail in the maintenance of the home.

In some cases, I think that I get to enjoy the posh homes more than their owners do. 🤔

Only HollyDolly can speak for herself, but you might be on to something. On my drive to my daughter's, I pass long time familiar houses and I look and consider how much of their clan they have left, and if they are wise and pull together. I've noticed making these observations since my dad died. Material needs seemed to vary with stages of life for me. Now, the lighter I am on stuff the more at ease I feel. HollyDolly might be having some similar need for comfort and searching for answers through evaluation.

I've never been one to go for moonlight walks to blimp inside folks houses, because I don't have a dog to walk......

"Hello, I'm ringing about your dog, is it still for sale?" 😊
