Do you experience insights before being fully awake?

Early in the morning to distract from nagging pain I often pull up a crossword puzzle on my phone. Sometimes I fill in the blanks before I am actually aware of knowing the answer. Am I getting signals from the collective conscious or am I simply sharper due to fewer distractions?

Could be either, or your personal subconscious. Malcolm Gladwell's book 'Blink' talks about how our subconscious can influence our feelings and intuition. Much of the data that is perceived by our senses, especially visual and auditory doesn't make it into our processing consciousness. But it is there subliminally and various bits can come together to make us feel very clear and sure about something without being able to identify the mental path that led us to the 'conclusion'.

I generally meditate first thing, tho sometimes have to go to bathroom and tend fire before doing that. My mind usually sharper after i meditate.

No, but it keeps me up at night. Thoughts and words go round and round in my head until l feel I've spent enough time figuring things out, and explaining it to myself. l sometimes feel like l should get up and write some of it down like in a diary. l'm not going to do that though.

Feywon, you always seem to have something interesting to contribute on subjects like this. I appreciate it. I was never sure about Gladwell (not sure why) but I like this bit of information.

If you have only just woken your mind might not be fully aware, so it works automatically. Sometimes we think too much and it causes a blockage. Relax your mind and your lower consciousness takes over. Which means that we all know more than we think we do, it's just a matter of accessing data.

I think it's being relaxed and not having any distractions.

As a child, I sometimes had sleep paralysis; where your body is in sleep mode but your mind is active. It was quite scary, waking up and not being able to move. What helped was staying relaxed and concentrating on small movements like, moving a finger or toe. Fortunately, I grew out of it.

I have experienced insights before fully awake, but it's rare. Sometimes when I encounter a problem I can't solve, the answer will come to me after a night's sleep. I think we sometimes get caught in the "can't see the forest for the trees" syndrome, and relaxing our concentration helps.

I have had that happen too. Have also had solutions come to me in dreams as well. Because if it bugs one enough the subconscious will work on it even as we sleep.
