Do you get cold more easily now?

Ron's work keeps him outside a lot of the time. His work wardrobe reflects that...he has a layering technique with his clothes that is sometimes 4 layers deep but it allows him to work in very cold temps.

This winter has been harder on him than usual. He’s having trouble getting warm/staying warm. We’ve been sleeping with an extra down comforter on the bed because he feels chilled. I kick it off after a while because I tend to run warm since menopause. I even bought him an electric blanket for Christmas! 😉

Are you feeling the cold more easily the older you’ve gotten? One of my friends said she thinks men experience this more than women. What do you think?

Absolutely, I definitely notice the difference in my ability to both regulate and keep warm compared to when I was younger, and my husband who has always run extremely hot, also notices that he doesn't run as hot anymore.

We have the heat on in the house more now than ever before (winter months), and higher in temp.

I've talked to a lot of people about this very thing over the years, and all seem to relay the same thing to me... "I get cold faster, and I always feel like I'm cold".

As for the cold thing affecting men more as we age, I've never heard of that.

I notice it a lot more now too and actally welcome the hot flashes. My husband doesn’t seem to notice it as much as I do, but then he’s a year younger than I am. Maybe next year we’ll both be adding extra sweaters and wrapping ourselves in blankets while watching tv 😂

I often get chilly in the evenings, after Supper, as my blood flow seems to go towards the belly. I keep a nice fuzzy blanket handy for when I flop down in the recliner, and turn on the TV. That keeps me cozy, and I usually wind up taking a short nap, unless there is something Really Good on the TV....a rarity.
I don't have much "insulation"...5'9", and 150 lbs....so, I dress warmly when I go outdoors, etc.

That’s a good point about the insulation. Ron is 6’1” and lean. 175 lbs though his 70+ years have bestowed upon him a little pot belly 😉 which he hates. But he’s muscular too...that hard physical work every day.

He’s certainly not overweight and never had been. He’s worn the same size 32” pants all his adult life. I wonder if he should maybe add a few pounds?

Nope, on the contrary I'm always too warm. (not hot flushes)... whereas my o/h 5 years younger, age 60 , is always cold.

He is about a stone (14 pounds) overweight.. yet he never feels warm. He wears about 4 layers, including his thermal T-shirt...

He gets home from work and regardless of how warm the house is when he comes in he keeps his jacket on until he sits to eat, and even then sometimes he still has it on.

he says he can no longer get his feet warm, so I bought him an electric throw (overblanket) for his bed .. it helps him a lot

I would die of heatstroke if I had that.. I only ever have a low tog duvet on my bed even in winter

I put on some weight during the first year I was retired....little to do other than mow the lawn. Then, we moved to the country, and I have gobs of outdoor work to do every day the weather permits, and quickly lost that "flab". I would like to add about 20 pounds, but abhor just sitting around watching TV. Besides, excess weight is the primary cause of so many health issues for us as we age. So, I'll just stay a bit skinny, and enjoy my evening blanket.

The cold used to never bother me, loved being outside in the winter, and doing things around the property... Since the car accident over 10 years ago now, I freeze... Before the car accident, I would go outside in the winter @ work in a t-shirt and have a smoke or two... Now at home, I have a sweater, Sweatpants, long johns, robe, and coat, and freeze almost instantly... Don't like the cold at all anymore... How long till Spring?

Some medications can cause or add to sensations of feeling cold. One of mine lists diminished blood flow to the extremities as a side effect, so I have chronically cold hands and feet, especially in the winter months when they can feel like ice. They say that the benefits of such medications outweigh the disadvantages, but with meds it can seem like you put out one fire only to start another...

I am a hot person. I keep my heat at about 68 degrees and sometimes I turn it up if it is really cold outside. I see people all bundled up outside and I am wearing a light jacket or sweater. The only thing that ever gets cold on me is my feet but not all the time.

Now I have thought men are colder than women as they age. I don't know if it is a proven fact but I noticed it due to my father, my brother and my husband and now my boyfriend. My son on the other hand, has always been like me. He just said he is glad the weather finally got cold.

@mike4lorie do you mind me asking about your car accident? I’m curious how a car accident could affect your response to cold weather.

@Ronni, Not really sure, but since I ended up with some brain damage, a lot of things changed for me... I used to not like yellow beans and carrots, and now I crave them... Just like before I didn't mind the cold weather, But now I dislike it, and I freeze where I never used to... I cannot explain it... I used to remember phone numbers and jokes, and now 2 minutes after someone tells me, I completely have forgotten everything... If Lorie doesn't give me a list to go to the store with, I end up coming home with nothing and upset she even sent me or with things I don't even know where it came from... She is standing behind me at the moment dictating to me what to write... I run into friends that I thought I haven't seen for years, and invite them over for a drink, or a coffee, and if they show up the next day, I have no idea why...

Some days are better than they were a few years ago... But also my life is a lot more simplified... I went back to a school I was in millions of times, the Cheif Custodian asked me if I could go and check the meters... I ended up calling Lorie at home because I was near tears because I couldn't find my way out of the basement...

Around here, I know pretty much what I need to know... I have to make things in life regular now... like a habit...If I forget to do something that I do every day, it is gone... Like taking medication, Have to take my medication at the same time every day, if I miss one day, it takes me months to make it a habit again...

I hear often, sure wish the old Mike was back... He must have been a pretty kewl guy, but I don't remember anything about the old Mike...

Anyways Ronni... Our brains work in mysterious ways...

When I was younger I used to sweat if looked at me the wrong way :p of course being 120 lb.s heavier couldn't have had anything to do with it.

I loved to do my heavy duty yard work in the fall or winter, of course would layer clothing so I could regulate the temperature.

Since I've been....over 60 I've found that I'm super cold sensitive, it's costing a fortune to keep the house comfortable(using propane).

When it's cold outside I don't want to do nothing(anything) outside...at all. Ever.
