Most stores make a small charge for carrier bags these days but my local fishmonger still gives one free with your purchase, I commented on this yesterday saying it was a nice and appreciated gesture, he looked surprised and told me I was the only customer who had mentioned it and agreed, there would soon be comments if they started charging for their bags

Do you give praise for good service as well as complaining about the bad ?
 

I try to show appreciation for good service and especially service that exceeds my expectations. I have almost given up complaining about poor service and service below my expectations, because it just seems to make no difference.

I have changed my expectations (lowered?) because younger generations do not seems to care what expectations I may have and their supervisors don't seem to care either.
 
Yes I do. I do the Kroger satisfaction survey and list the names of people that helped me on that visit. I get rewards points for fuel discounts that I don't use as there are not any gas stations that accept them around me.
 
Yes, I do. I sent an email naming the associate who helped me.

If it was not good service, I just let it go. If it became habitual, I'd get fed up and say something.
 
I give praise for good service quite a bit, I do really appreciate when people are polite and helpful, and take pride in their work. Like Rose, I let a lot of things go unless it's something really bad or happens too often.
 
Yes. A Walmart grocery/drug store I go to has employees who have been very helpful with my difficulty reaching for things (why are the things I buy most usually on top or bottom shelves??) & have gotten to know me & say hello, & a manager who is often active on the floor stocking etc & I’ve let him know too. Same with the folks at Trader Joe’s.
I’m pretty self sufficient out on my walker, but I always thank people who offer help, even if I’m politely declining it.

Yes.
Especially if it's a kid, busting his/her hind end.
Older/middle aged folks have formed habits that are somewhat set in concrete, but younger folks seem to appreciate a good word.
Especially if I, more or less, stop them with whatever they are doing, look 'em in the eye, and express my appreciation.

Complain? I just get incredulous.
'Really, you ask if I need a bag?...no, I'm just gonna juggle these four cans of green beans, the jar of mayo, the eggs, and this jug of milk to the car'

Or

'Are you on break, or are you holding down that stack of 2x4s?'
