Do you have a story about your avatar?

Mine is a picture of a corner hutch my husband made me many years ago. It is filled with some of my favorite things - my mother’s tea set, a few of my favorite birds (I collect birds), some dog figurines that represent pets we’ve had over the years (beagles and dachshunds), old books and a few more items that belonged to my mother.

Brandy. She's long passed away but she lived to old age. She was kind of wild and only had one eye but she calmed. My mother got her from a place she was working at. They had caught her and were going to take her to the pound so my mother took her. She was so sweet. You can't tell but she has a collar and leash on in this picture. We had her on the deck. Her missing eye socket was eventually cleaned and sutured by the vet.

I clipped my avatar from a family portrait taken on Father's Day in 2017. All 3 of my kids are in it. Both my sons live nearby, but my youngest, my daughter, Maud, had come all the way up from Los Angeles. I hadn't seen her for about 4 years.

I was having some serious problems with my back and couldn't travel, she'd lost her husband and worked full time in LA, but the main issue was, Maud was still mad at me for a really stupid thing I did back in 2010.

But I kept in touch with her all that time, and when we finally reconciled, Maud got on a plane from LAX to SAC for a surprise reunion, and arranged to have this family portrait taken at a studio here in Sacramento.

So that was a super special Father's Day.

You can just see Maud's shoulder to my right there. She has her arm around me. That's why I'm smiling so big.

... just thought it was a better picture than my other one

As an immigrant I still have bouts of home sickness and the castle ruins are my fondest memory of my hometown! As kids we used to play on top of those steep walls, never concerned about the possible danger. In those days children roamed free without adult supervision. My two siblings and I spent most of our time in the woods and I still remember the daily routine of my mother standing at the bottom of the hill, in front of our house, cupping her hands and yelling: (our names) "Supper!" The sound carried for a long distance!

In the distant past, before I almost completely stopped drinking whiskey, I loved my single malt scotch. I had quite a collection.
When I retired, I gifted a number of bottles to friends at work who also fancied single malts. Below is the complete picture:

When I joined SF didn't have any photos,so I asked Matrix to pick out mine, shows a big movie screen outside
I grew up watching/loving movies, after I retired it became one of my favorite hobbies since I now had the time to go to movie theatre
I usually went 1-3 times/ month either by myself or with my 'movie buddy' ,Alexei usually on Tues when the ticket was cheaper., Covid changed everything. The last time I was at the movies was last yr,we went to see 'Mrs Harris Goes To Paris' at local movie theatre, felt great to be there
