Rose65 inspired me with her sleep routine so, like her, I'm trying to 'wind up' for eight hours after rising, then 'wind down' over the next eight hours, which would put me in the happy position of getting eight hours sleep. I'm working on it.
These days it depends greatly on what my day has been like. If i've done a lot of physical chores or i'm dealing with physical injury i need an hour so of being still, calm to recoup my energy. There were a few post menopausal years when i had a daily slump no matter what my day had been like and had unplanned naps regularly. Once my thyroid issue was addressed it happened less.
@Ronni i was never much of napper most of my life. Childhood ones non-existent by age 2 and by 4yrs i was allowed to stay up as
late as my much older sisters (9 during school year 10pm in suumer. Parents figured out if i went to bed too early i was up earlier. I was surprised when. I was able to nap during a few years when it made sense.
After i retired and moved here and my daughter was working night shifts till 11 or 12 pm 5 nights a week. I trained myself to nap for an hour or so earlier in evening. I preferred that to sleeping later because 1) unless sick, i wake with the sun regardless of being retired and 2) my peak energy is early in the day. Now that daughter's scheduled hours end earlier (8-10 pm depending on season) i don't nap unless sick.
