Do You Have Nightmares When Sick ?

I've been stuck in bed the past few days because of the flu or something very close to it. I haven't been this sick for awhile and you know what the worse thing was for me ? The dreams ! Or should I say nightmares. And it was the same nightmare over and over and over again. I woke up screaming a couple of times just out of pure frustration of the repeated dream. I was medicated the best I could be for the pain, chills, fever, etc. Those still caused some discomfort of course but it was the freaking repeatable dream that was the worse for me. I googled the subject and apparently it is a common occurrence.

Geez, never heard of nightmares brought on by the flu, virus......maybe fever could cause this though. Hope you feel better soon, not fun.

I have nightmares when I’m not sick, but they are becoming less as the years pass. I could be sick or not, they would just happen.

It's been long enough I had forgotten it, but I had some terrible nightmares once when I had an infection and was running a fever.

The good news is that they went away as soon as I began recovering.

I hope you feel better soon.

Yes, I've had them when I was not sick. I've also had a reoccurring nightmare that is very bothersome since it's a scary one. Very Interesting.

Sorry you're sick Mark...but it's probably the medication. I have very vivid dreams every night but when I'm on certain meds I do have some horrific nightmares... Get well soon

Thanks and I am feeling better. I do think it must be the combination of the fever and medication. I also discovered another great reason to subscribe to Hulu or Netflix. While sick I can find a show to run all through the day at a certain noise level for background noise and not have to worry about annoying commercials popping up with increased volume .

I have had my share of bad or disturbing dreams, but not all connected to being sick. Though some of mine have been associated with medications I have taken.

I don't have them often, but have had them when either sick or feeling fine. I think it's the medication too. Hope you feel 100% soon. :)

No nightmares but I do sometimes have very vivid odd dreams when I have a fever. I seem to have them when I've spent a little too much time in bed, similar to second sleep dreams.

Hope you feel better and start having sweet dreams again real soon!

Sickness is relative. Some folks get a few sniffles and call it "SICK".

I've had a cold but didn't call it "sick".

Measles, Whooping Caugh, Mumps, etc are sicknesses.. Cancer is one of the worst sicknesses.

I haven't been "sick" in such a long time, I can't remember if I had nightmares or not.

Like a few others, nightmares have lessened as I've aged, but when they do show up, it's as likely when I'm well as when sick. The meds is a good guess though. I seem to recall having more disturbed sleep when using them.

I don't get sick enough to remember, but I *do* know my nightmares are directly related to whatever I eat an hour or so before falling asleep. Cheese, anything hard to digest, like complex carbs, and just found out a new one today---pumpkin (pie). But it was worth it. :)

I'm with you there!!! I'll fight my way through pumpkin pie regardless of the consequences. Uhh - - - Burp!

Two weeks later I'm still fighting this thing. I now have bronchitis. Went to the doctor's today and she prescribed steroids and antibiotics to fight off pneumonia. She said that many are going through the same in my area (Phoenix). A couple of times I thought it was going away only to get the chills come back that night. So the strange dreams are long gone but the sickness still lingers. Last time I was this sick was this time of year back in 1999. I missed the whole 2000 celebration but I guess I really didn't miss much. I hope it is another 18 years before I feel this way again :)
