Do You Have Online Pen Pals?

There's this woman who wrote from one of the sites I frequent. I was kind of leery about opening her note since this site gets pretty colorful sometimes. But it was very sweet actually. She said she knew we lock horns on a bunch of issues but she still enjoyed my writing. I come to find out we actually have quite a bit in common. So we agreed to communicate privately from time to time. We just don't talk politics or religion.

So that's kind of neat really. A bible belt conservative and tree hugging Jew and we can drop our weapons and schmooze anyways. Grandkids, trying to keep our landscaping in repair, dogs, cats, the ills of menopause and aging...we don't have to fling darts at each other. Well, on the political forum we still go at it, but maybe with a bit more understanding.

What a wonderful coming together of people who may not have ever had the chance to meet as simple souls. No one is really that different from anyone else when you come down to basic human needs. Our wants might vary but as long as we are respectful of our differences we should be able to coexist. I'ts only when our collective ego takes over that we have conflict.

I have people I have corresponded with over 48 years, first by typewriter and now by email. I have also met one of them at their home with the family and vise versa a few times. She lives in TX and and then the other one lived in upstate NY till she retired in FL. So that's only 2 people now. I have less time now and only kept my besties.

There's another fellow who lives in Texas, probably a card carrying NRA member. But it's okay...everybody dumps on him as if Texas is the only hillbilly state. I lived in small town Pennsylvania, if you want a place for guns and white hoods look no further. But really, I lived in Austin when it was on top of the music scene. Texans have their stuff but no more than Florida or a bunch of other states. I wrote to Tex today. He's safe around Dallas. But the pictures from Austin and surrounding areas had me ready to cry.

I have several currently, two from this site who have forsaken me, likely due to my goofy stance, a really good pen pal in Northern Utah, a Pharmacist, who has opposing ideological standing to my own (religious), but nonetheless sees value in corresponding with me. He remembers a lot about the Chemistry he studied, a fact I appreciate. That is one of the things we discuss: technical stuff pertaining to medications and such. imp

I have a lot of friends, from the internet, some I have met face to face and some via telephone. We have a FB Group (private) that we post stuff that would not be of interest to our families.
