Hedgehog babies!

:) Did you know that the babies are born with the quills beneath the skin so they can travel safely through the birth canal.

They are very trendy as pets these days and are so cute. But I don't know if they are happy as pets or rather, if we know enough about them and their needs to help them to be contented.

They are adorable in the wild where they belong. People need to do a lot of research before they go out and buy an animal. The shelters are full of dogs and cats because humans don't bother to find out everything they need to know about the breed they purchased. And that's just dogs and cats. The moment a child or an adult gets injured because they don't know how to properly handle their captive pet the animal is the one who suffers or is killed. Those quills can hurt if the animal feels threatened.

I had a pet sitting client that bragged to me about how her husband rough housed with their newly adopted BIG dog. I told her that wasn't a good idea because it only teaches the dog to be aggressive. I suggested her hubby find a better way to bond with the dog like throwing a ball or something. She ignored me. The dog bit the husband, the dog was killed.

When my husband was a young child he used to feed homemade fruit soup to the wild hedgehogs at his aunt's house, a nice memory of good and simple times.

Seabreeze, that is nice memory. :) That soup sounds good. lol.

Aeron, I imagine all wildlife must be full of fleas. My cat snores but thankfully he's not full of them. That's very kind of you to put food out for them. I like to give the wildlife a little helping hand too. Especially in Winter and because so much of their habitat has been destroyed here on Long Island, NY.
