I wonder how many Mexicans living in the U.S. know. I might ask as well How many native born Americans know why the 4th of July is celebrated.

The Mexicans living here know. A lot of Americans just think that Cinco de Mayo is just for beber para convertirse en estado de borracho.

As mentioned, 5th of May is It’sactually a day in remembrance of the Battle of Pueblain 1862.

But, everyone can have fun, don't need a really big excuse. Maybe BBQ, have some drinks, let the kids bat a piñata.

Most Mexicans and Mexican Americans (+descendants) in the U.S. know about Cinco De Mayo. As of 10~12 years ago however, apparently not a lot of Mexicans in Mexico knew. I participated in a startup in Mexico and the subject of holidays was naturally discussed. The Mexicans were puzzled as they thought they knew all Norte Americano holidays and wondered why we would ask them to celebrate.

Those Mexican culture classes missed a few things, although I was able to explain why a Statue of Abraham Lincoln is in Tijuana.

Very big here in Texas, especially in San Antonio. For Cinco de Mayo, I send Cascarón's (confetti eggs) to my friends daughter in Niagara Falls.... her mom is a clean freak and dreads all mail coming from me.... so I send them to my friends work..... she hates me grandly....

Here's a short history lesson Lon:

But yes, it's an excuse for a day of long happy hours, and around here eating too much Tex-Mex.:partytime:
