Do you know your pet's birthday, and celebrate it?

All our cats were throw aways and Izzi showed up in blizzard. So we go by gotcha day. Extra loving, lots of extra loving. One cat tree?

We have pencil/ink portraits of all and the date they left us on the back. Shadow Cat left April 19, 2019. Do I miss the grumpy, snoring, tantrum throwing 20-pound tortie and our daily game of whose pillow is it.

Most of our dogs have been rescues but I never forget the birthdays of the last two who we got as puppies. Funny but I don’t remember now the day I brought them home any more than I remember the gotcha days of my earliest dogs.

But we’ve never celebrated their birthdays, treating them like all the others with a good walk, good meals and lots of companionship and affection. Ember has never seemed disappointed but maybe we’ll do something next month when she turns four.

Ember on her second day with us and then on a fairly recent walk.

We know both our dogs birthdays and YES we celebrate them. We don’t buy them a doggie cake or anything . Instead, we make a bigger fuss over them than usual. They get MORE of their favouite foods and we play with them more.

Well my wife Patricia, who passed away on April 13, 2014, had a St. Patrick's Day March 17 birthday. A few months after her death I went on the internet to see about getting a dog and ended up purchasing Maggie from a third-party vendor, based on a picture of her. Her birthday--March 16. If she had been born one day later, I would not have gotten her. So yes I know her birthday. A recent picture of her:

Maggie looks well cared for.

Our cats are rescues. We are not sure of their exact birth date, we are following the date that the rescue gave us.
As far as celebrating their birthday, every day is their birthday! They rule the house and rule us too!😉
Actually, we love to spoil them and love to give them a great life.

I don't know Deja's birthday because she was a feral kitten who camped out on my patio for two nights before she rescued me on Labor Day weekend in 2022. 😸 I wasn't able to get an appointment at the vet until the following week. Based upon her exam, he said she was about 6 weeks old, so I figured she was probably born somewhere around the end of July or beginning of August. She captured my heart the minute I saw her.

My wife's younger son Mike has 2 Jack Russel terriers, Jack and Jill, who were litter mates. They are now 14 years old. Mike says they still run like mad when they see a cat on the street, trying to get at it. It's a major part of the JR breed characteristic, to chase moving animals. The breed was originally developed to be ratters on farms. JIM.

Who would not want to be adopted by her?

We completely adore and 'baby' our dogs, but don't celebrate their birthdays, but I think we should.
OK, I searched our Google Calendar and found both Angel and Rusty's birthdays:
Angel 8th birthday
September 17, 2023

Got Rusty 2018
April 27, 2024
I marked those days on the calendar and set up a reminder.
Tomorrow is the day that we are going to call Rusty's birthday as it was the day we adopted him from the rescue, and nobody knows his actual birthday.
We do know Angel's real birthday, the lady who gave us Angel was our groomer's assistant, she had bought Angel from a breeder and had papers on her.
