Do you like cookie dough or uncooked cake batter?

First of all I know you aren't suppose to eat raw dough or batter because of the raw eggs. My hubby drives me nuts with this. While I'm making a cake or cookies he circles me like a buzzard about to pounce on a road kill waiting for the dough or to lick out the bowl and even the beaters. When I was growing up and if I had stuck my fingers in the cookie dough my Mom would have had a fit. She would have said,Can't you wait? I did taste the dough once and thought it was starchy, gritty and a bit tasteless. I noticed there are plenty of items on the market containing the cookie dough which they advertise as safe to eat such as ice cream so I guess it is not uncommon and many people must enjoy it. I compromised with the hubby and told him if he stays away from my dough I'll save him some and put it in the refrigerator. So far this has worked. Less cookie making for me also. Do you like it raw?

Oh the memories of licking the beaters and scraping the bowl. I don't particularly care for it now, but my granddaughter loves raw cookie dough. She's 18 now (just so you don't envision a little bitty girl). I have home made cookie dough in the fridge right now..Oatmeal raisin cookies chillin' out to bake.

I loved licking the bowl of cake batter as a kid, and still do, but will never do it again. Couple months ago I got food poisoning from the eggs in it. Mega cramps and diarrhea. Took my nitwit doctor nine days to figure out it was not stomach flu, and give me some antibiotics

I never ate raw cookie dough, but I always used to love licking the beaters or spoons of cake mix or frosting. My mother used to slip me a raw egg without my knowledge in chocolate milk sometimes as a child, and some people who work out physically will eat raw eggs. I eat a bit of raw ground beef when I'm making hamburgers at home, just a small taste with some salt, never got sick from any of those things.

I used to love uncooked cake batter then a friend saw me do it and spoiled everything by telling me about salmonella.

Also, like SeaBreeze, a small taste of raw hamburger . . . YUM!

Sometimes cookie dough doesn't quite make it to the oven...

Oh, the beaters
Mom used to call me in for those
It'da been nice of she'd turned off the mixer, but still...

Gramma nailed me with a mixing spoon of Hershey's powdered unsweetened dark chocolate once
I think she was the cause of my twisted sense of humor
Never trusted her as much after that

My mom used to call me over for the beaters too Gary, but she turned them off first. :p Your dark chocolate story reminds me of when I was VERY young, my mom used to buy Nestles Quick powdered chocolate and also PDQ brand, that was more of chocolate 'crystals' instead of powder. Once day I snuck into the cabinet when my mother wasn't around and took a spoonful of something I thought was chocolate mix and put it in my mouth quickly.....it was instant coffee. Ran over to the sink pretty quickly and rinsed before she saw me.

I love cookie dough and have to fight with myself to keep my fingers out of it. Some raw doughs are better than others.

What I love even more is raw bread dough in all its yeastiness. My mother saw an article in our newspaper about a kid who ate raw bread dough and then drank a Coke. He had to be hospitalized when all that sugar went to work on the yeast. I figured I was okay since we never had Cokes in our house so it never slowed me down.

Whenever my wife is making chocolate chip cookies, my "duty" is to clean the excess off the mixer beater. I know the warnings about raw cookie dough....probably because of the raw eggs, but can't resist. Besides, there are any number of "health" guru's who espouse the benefits of putting some raw eggs in a blender, and drinking the mix. With all the germs and viruses floating about, I am not too worried about raw cookie dough.
