Do You Read Food Labels?

While munching on cashews I read from the can, "contains bioengineered food ingredients" and "product of Vietnam, Brazil, India, Indonesia". It makes one wonder.

😱

Guess it could be the modified oils.

Usually I just read for date & fibre.

IMO, the labels set by Health Canada are inadequate.

Out of habit, I've been reading food labels for a long time .... expiration dates, calories, ingredients and especially where those ingredients come from ... secret and undefined ingredients are probably something that you really don't want to be eating.

Off topic .. Also it's really important to me to pay attention to commercial dog food and treats, and what they are passing off as "healthy and nutritious"
It takes too long to recall products ... they wait until enough dogs get sick/or die. (Too much stuff from China out there)

I occasionally check the labels, and hope that all the "additives" don't have too many "side effects". About the ONLY food I really trust is that which I grow in our garden.

We live in an area with lots of cattle and poultry farms. The chicken and turkey farms grow their birds to "market ready" in a fraction of the time that Nature would take...largely due to the "growth hormones" they add to the feed. I strongly suspect that these "additives" remain in the meat, and are eaten by the consumers....which is a major contributor to our nations Obesity Epidemic.

I check calories per serving if I am thinking of getting something I haven't bought before. We eat salad every day (or mostly) and not too many canned stuff unless it is organic or from the health section. This is mostly for my food stuff - the rest of the family really couldn't care less - if they want something they get it.
