Do You Read More Books Now That You Are Retired?.

I never read much during my working life due to 12-13 hour days but now I read a book a month.

Yes! Last year I averaged more that one per week. I love to read. I am catching up on all the books I wanted to read but never had the time due to long hrs at work.

No.. In my youth I used to read a book a week, but not any more. I sometimes take a notion to read, but only a few pages (or a short chapter) at a time. I'm presently reading "The road to Llittle Dribbling" by Bill Bryson - very slowly.

On a slightly related topic, do you find that some authors are great to listen to on the radio, but their books do not have the same appeal? Two I can think of are Garrison Keillor and David Sedaris. I much prefer listening to them.

Yes,I'm reading more since I've been retired. I don't go to the library,I buy all my books either through a book catalogue,I've used for years. Once in awhile I'll buy on Amazon or go to Target.I also buy at a local independent bookstore'Talking Leaves' here in Buffalo,I'm a member. I get 10% off each book.
In the basement of my apt building we have our own library, shelves of books. When I'm done with mine,I put them in the donated box. Sue

Nope I really don't. I always thought I would given that I've been an avid reader all my life, but I just barely have the patience for it these days except for at night and then for the last few months, for the first time ever in my life, I find even that is just too much.

I have a theory it's because I spend a lot of time reading on the computer so by the time it comes to my beloved books, I'm just too tired for more print...

Not really. I have always been a reader so even when I was working I read at lunchtime and in the evenings or whenever I had time. Pretty much have stayed the same.

Always enjoyed reading and still do since retiring. I enjoy it more during retirement as I can pick and choose when I feel like reading - morning, afternoon, or evening. I buy few books but am usually at one of our many regional libraries about every other week. When we wintered in Florida, I held a library card in Charlotte County and as we still spend a few months of the year in Maine, I have cards in two small public libraries. Reading on our extended vacations is one of my favorite pastimes.

My wife makes up for my lack of buying and does a good amount through Amazon. She is also an avid reader.

Yes I do. I tried to read when I was younger but I worked full time and was a single father. I'd barely get through a few paragraphs before falling asleep. I'm making up for it now; started out trying to read all the books I missed back when, but I'm finding some contemporary authors who are interesting and/or relatable.

I need advice , some people have asked me to do a book signing at their store, the problem is I hate book signing's, my book has been out since 2011, I just meant it for my friends, but it stated selling, not selling to many copies now, not sure if I want to push this book about my life.

I understand if it's a private story of your life and these were strangers, but I wouldn't overthink it John. Just go and have fun meeting people who obviously already like you and your book or they wouldn't be there for you to sign it :) Oh, and congratulations on being asked to do book signings!

John, many do not get the opportunity that you have been given. You may have regrets down the road if you don't do it and always have the "what if's" in the back of your mind.
