Do you remember Liberace?

He used to come to RI every summer at our musical theater. He is gone and so is the theater, boyh are missed. He was a great entertainer and the theater was a great venue for summer shows.

I loved Liberace, this is one of the funniest videos I’ve seen, the facial expressions are priceless !

As a little kid, I knew he was "different," but didn't understand in what way. He was entertaining, but his general demeanor confused me.

He was one of the greatest showmen ever and he seemed to totally enjoy every minute of it. I was never lucky enough to see him in person, just on TV.

The Spousal Equivalent, on the other hand, was lucky enough. He has a picture of him and Liberace standing together at the Acropolis in Greece. The SE's Navy ship had put into port and he had gone sightseeing. At the ruins, a man had come up and said Liberace was there and wanted to know if he would like his picture with him. The man who was with Liberace took pictures with the SE's camera and his camera and then the SE talked to Liberace for a while.

The SE was quite a handsome slim young fellow in those days in his dress whites....well, he's still handsome and slim...and I think Liberace liked meeting handsome young sailors, if you get my drift.

Anyway, that's my Liberace story.

Back in the 70s or perhaps early 80s when I lived in Hollywood, I drove up next to this giant white station wagon that had a piano keyboard painted on the side. I looked over and who do you think was driving? I mouthed, "Liberace???" and he nodded, smiled, and blew me a kiss. I did the same back. That celeb sighting made my day even though I wasn't particularly a fan of his style of music.

I looked up the car on the web and here it is, exactly as I remember it.

Thanks, RR. Living in Hollywood and LA for so long has provided a number of unexpected celebrity sightings over the years, but this was one of my top five, for sure.

We had a thread here some time ago about famous people we'd met. Maybe we should revive it. I'm curious about the stars you've met.

I met Richard Simmons (was on a panel on one of his talk shows about 25 years ago - very vivacious guy!) and Chuck Woolery (I was on Wheel of Fortune).

Erik Estrada came to my house circa 1990. Talk about a stunningly handsome man - and an incredibly nice guy! Also met Ernie Hudson and his family - another truly nice person and lovely family.

In the mid-90s I saw saw Sean Connery and Sidney Poitier dining with their wives. Coulen't tell you a thing about the women but both men were gorgeous! I nearly vaulted over my table to get to Mr. 007 but allowed discretion to be the better part of valor.

Saw Sally Fields in a different restaurant around 2000. She was exactly as adorable as you might expect. Another time I saw Shirley MacLaine eating dinner with Howie Long (the football player-turned-announcer) they appeared to be quite good friends and were deep in laughter and conversation.

Saw Loni Anderson lunching with a group of her friends one time. She was dressed and made up exactly like she looked on WKRP plus she had on a huge cartwheel hat. You couldn't miss her if you tried.

I chatted for a moment in a liquor store with Richard Thomas (John-Boy Walton).

My kids went to school with Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Armie Hammer, and some lesser known actors. Over the years we've also gotten to know some Olympic gold medal athletes and a couple of NBA players.

That's all I can bring to mind at the moment but am sure there have been others.

Watched the movie, Behind The Candelabra with Michael Douglas and Matt Damon and we absolutely hated it. Showed inexplicit sexual scenes between Michael and Matt that were just to close to being real. Actually, I never knew that Liberace was this type of man...…..lots of male sex partners.

We both like movies with Douglas and Damon in them, but this movie was insane.

Wowzer, StarSong! You must have gotten used to it after awhile. I want to see you on Wheel of Fortuune and with Richard Simmons!

My claims to fame-

I met Art Garfunkle.
My old friend's son had a bit part in tv show once and a movie once. dhUOuPYZcZvGXGxpJZZV.gif

RR - So Sean Connery is our one (or is it two) degrees of separation. Sean Connery! Whoda thunk it?

Just remembered about ten years ago I had a few very long conversations with a charming woman named Annie Hall. Loved her name and her personality. After we'd chatted for quite some time - perhaps an hour - I asked her what brought her from Chicago to LA. She said, "Well, my son Arsenio moved out here for business..." My brain froze for a moment. Her son, Arsenio, as in Arsenio Hall? Yes. That Arsenio. I could see where he got his personality. :)

Another time a woman was writing me a check (business) and I noticed the names on the check. Hers and Dwayne Hickman's. I asked her if it was that Dwayne Hickman and she smiled a bit and said, "Yes. It's true. I'm married to Dobie Gillis!" We both laughed. I met her and his son but Dobie wasn't there that day. Again, charming woman, charming son.

Cool beans- Aresenio Hall and Dwayne Hickman, aka Dobie Gillis. I remember them. LOL, also Sean Connery!

Yikes, I know of Hulk Hogan and why did he knock you down?. I never heard of the others.

Hey, we're way off topic! :playful:
