My Grandmother raised me and as we all know, Grannies are the best cooks.
Sunday Evening meal was all Desserts/Cakes/Biscuits.
Too many favourites but if I had to choose one?
Wine Trifle with real Sherry, Topped with desiccated Coconut, Whipped Cream, Sprinkled with Cocoa Powder

Fried bread dough with Maple Syrup.

Mom's homemade Coconut Cream Pie or Banana Cream Pie....it still is my favorite, except my wife makes them. My late mother taught her how she made them....

There was a yellow cake with fluffy white coconut frosting between two layers and on top. Rectangular. Just a store bought cake. It was lovely though.

Haven't found the like since childhood, only imitations

That's one of many things that I loved as a child but would never eat now.

One of my grandmothers came from a part of the world where fruit was considered dessert. The other baked the best goodies on the planet. I think Gran's chocolate creme pie was one of the best, but her desserts never disappointed.

As far as I know, trifle has been around since Australia has been named so.

I always thought it was a British thing.
I guess the British brought the idea over to Australia

Sometimes my Mum used to take me to restaurants with her friends when I was about 10ish.

We only got it at Christmas time also.
Maybe that’s part of the reason it was so special. First my mom baked cake to go inside, then made the jello, let it set. Then the custard, let it set, then made the whipped cream. Superb !

Yummo!! I still make it for the family at Christmas time - it's a big hit here.

Not lame at all ! I have a huge sweet tooth now but not so much when I was a kid but I did love Jello...either plain or topped with whipped cream.
