I used to send out about 25 or so every year - just to our friends and relatives. In the last few years , we've gotten so few cards - I think the tradition has died .
Do you think it has ?

I send out 130-140 to relatives and a few friends with a family picture of us and the kids/grandkids. Don't get many back but I like to send them. Add a short letter saying what we are doing and a list of all the babies born and weddings in the past year.

I think the custom is dying -- it has already died among people I know. I haven't sent cards out for years. I think it was a nice thing back in the time when the only way to communicate with distant relatives/friends was by mail. Now, with electronic communications, nobody much does it any more. Besides which, with the rising cost of postage, it has gotten a bit expensive.

GOOD ANSWER Butterfly. I agree. I haven't sent any in quite a few years since I became a widower.

I receive a couple from friends and I thank them afterwards.

I send out around a dozen every year to family and friends, and they send me cards too in return, usually with a note or photo inside.

I still send out some. Nothing like the old days tho. If you enjoy it do it. If not, just let it go.

Once they started to be ego-boosting-self-aggrandizing-year-in-review things, it just took Christ right out of the picture. If that type of card is needed for "friends" to catch up, then they are not really friends......

Another nope!

I receive two each year, one from my CPA and the other from an old friend.

I remember when I was a kid my grandmother would set up a card table in the living room right after Thanksgiving and write what seemed like hundreds of Christmas cards. When she received a card in return she would pin it to a ribbon that was draped around the archway between her living room and dining room, most years the archway was loaded on both sides, it was a different time.

And then there were the craft projects, remember these baskets made from old Christmas cards.

No. I hand my kids a Christmas card with lotto scratch-off tickets in it, but that's it. I do the same for the older grandkids except there is cash in theirs.

I think that the tradition has died, might get 2 or 3 cards, from people over 60....

All card sending seems to be dying(birthday,mother's/father's day, etc).

I wonder if the kids or grand-kids would notice if WE stopped sending cards(and gifts)?

I'm an atheist so I don't send them out, but I realised a while ago that with a few old friends it was the only way we stayed in touch any more, so I send out four or five New Year cards instead.

I used to send out a bunch. But I was sending out cards to people I hadn't seen in decades, but I'd get a card from them. On year I figured why am I spending money and time on something that's going to lay in a dish for a week. No more.

When I moved into my new place the Christmas before last I decided to send all my new neighbour's a card to introduce myself to them as it was a cold winter and they were all locked away indoors so i hardly saw them about. I live in a set of nine bungalows with 7 women and 1 other guy living on there own. They are all older than me. This year I was a bit behind with Christmas preparations but sure enough they all sent me a card before mine went out except for my new next door neighbour who moved in after me. I believe she's very shy.
