Do you still send hand written cards at Christmas…..

We did, hubby, kids and I. We love to give cards to friends, acquaintances and family. However, the stamps cost are too much these days especially overseas. On top of that, if we don't receive one card back then it's obvious that the people don't care that we did, so they get eliminated from the list.

Always get mixed boxes on Boxing Day or more recently eCards. This year as it's the first without hubby as well as son, it'll be immediate neighbours, daughter's Avon customers and each others. To save costs we hand distribute and hopefully we'll get a few back.

With the Royal Mail strikes on/off, so far nothing has come through the letterbox. The last days which they'll be striking will be on 23-24 December, so I'm not expecting any to come through until after Christmas if at all.

I'll send texts or eCards via Skype and eMail but I did send a belated birthday eCard (I had the month wrong) if it wasn't even picked up, so a bit disappointing there.

Handwritten messages in the cards, yes, as I love to let people know what their support meant to us for the past year. Sadly, I've discovered that one neighbour was doing a favour out of the goodness of their heart but their partner had them stop doing it, just because we love feeding the birds out of our windows.

Okay, that was hard to swallow but being appreciative of people helping us out, we'll thank them both and wish them all the best for the coming New Year regardless. So, overall it'll be the usual baker's dozen...

About a month ago I was sorting thru a bunch of old family pictures my mother gave me years ago. One of them was from a birthday party in about 1947 or so. My dad was one of 10 so I had lots of cousins, etc, on that side of the family, and there were about 6 or 7 of us that had birthdays at the end of August. My grandfather was in the background, and the picture had one uncle (youngest of the 10) and one aunt (baby #9), several cousins, all of whom are still with us. There were several others in the picture that are no longer living, including my Aunt R, who was 12 or so in the picture, and was killed in an auto accident at age 18. I have never seen another picture of her. Also, my Cousin S, who died before age 30. There was only 1 kid I could not identify.

So, I took the picture to CVS, had 4 5"x7" copies made and sent to Uncle T, Aunt C, and cousins J and R, and enclosed a Christmas card and a short note. They should have them by now, and I hope they enjoy them, and hope I didn't bring back any unwanted memories of those who are gone.

I still like to send cards - mini gifts now, considering how much they & stamps cost. But I like to stay in touch. I've been sending out Solstice cards too! Love any excuse for a party, right? I like marking the seasons.
I've never seen a Solstice card. I need to get out more...
