Do you still send out Christmas Cards?

I bought a box of 10 lovely Christmas cards yesterday. My friend with me said "I'm not sending cards this year". I asked, "why not"? and she said. "Too expensive so I'm sending greetings on my phone". I love sending cards but the quantity this year is down to 10 maybe 15, as most of my friends have moved on. I love the spirit of Christmas and remembering the "good times" of yester-year.

These days I receive two photo cards from family, a card from a local politician, and a card from my accountant.

I remember when my grandmother used to set up a card table in her living room and start working on her Christmas card list the weekend after Thanksgiving.

The cards that she received were always pinned to ribbons on both sides of the arch between her living room and dining room.

Sadly, no. šŸ„ŗ For the last couple of years now, there's been one card received (from a cousin) and none sent. It just dwindled more and more over the years. There was a time that I was sending out around 50 cards... and most of those with handwritten letters. I started writing them before Thanksgiving. I truly do miss those days.
 
I haven't sent out cards for years. When I was a kid, it was a big deal for my family. We had hundreds of cards from friends and family covering the mantle over the fireplace and around large open passages from the living room into the dinning room and to a foyer for the front door. It was a big deal back then, and I thought it added to Christmas, but I was never into it the way everyone else was. It was like collecting friends on facebook. Only the tree out decorated the cards. I think it was cheap back then, but I understand that it has become prohibitively expensive today. And that's just the cards. Then add the postage, which used to be 3 cents for a card.
 
I only send to immediate family as well. ā€œSpecialty cardsā€ for sister, nephew, etc. are store-bought, and can easily cost $5 for each or more. When both postage and cards were much cheaper, I can remember that card preparation and mailing was a major enterprise for my parents. I can well remember seeing cards received trailed around doorways and on walls, mantles, etc. The demise of such practices is just another casualty of our electronic age, together with letter-writingā€¦pity!
 
My family stopped sending them years ago. I think that is a shame. I always enjoyed hearing from people I hadn't seen in a long time. They seemed like little Christmas gifts. Now I send out and receive two from women I used to work with. An old boss still sends and e-mail sometime during the holidays.

Not here they haven't:) Still have the wreath over the dining room door and the cards (that we still receive)adorning the door frame. Same as when my grand-mother and mother it did as far back as I can remember (1930's)

We don't send out as many cards as we used to but still do, to family and close friends.
