Do You use a Walker or a Cane?

I bought both for myself last year but use just the walker when getting out of bed in the morning. I get up and go into the kitchen with it to make myself a cup of coffee, sit in my new recliner with my coffee and watch the early morning news. After a half hour or so I don't need the walker and take it back to the bedroom and will not use it until the next morning. I am a bit vain and was reluctant to even consider aWALKER because of it's association with OLD PEOPLE, then it dawned on me, I am 82years old and qualify as OLD PEOPLE. Irrespective of age though, I really think a WALKER could benefit many with Rheumatoid Arthritis or other medical conditions. Don't let vanity get in the way of comfort. My days of running 70 miles a week, walking 18 holes of golf and carrying my bag, Racquet Ball etc. are over.

Since I took two falls last year within a few weeks last year, I use a cane. Mainly when I am outside on uneven surfaces, or if I know I will be doing a lot more walking than usual. My husband has a walker, but does not always need to use it.

Not yet but I do grab a grocery trolley, to help me stay right side up, when I go into the mega stores even if I only need a couple of items!

I've also watched a few YouTube videos about getting out of a chair or up off of the floor after a fall, lots of great information available these days.

I was having a problem for about a year with my left hip, so I bought a really pretty cane. Black with flowers painted on it.

Later, after talking to doctor, being x-rayed/etc, with no problems revealed, I discovered on my own the cause of my hip pain.

I like to get real comfy, so sitting at my desk while playing on the computer, I released the back on my desk chair and leaned back while propping my feet on my desk. (Like I said, I like to get comfy.) When I would start to get out of my chair, it got to the point where I would have to hold my left leg to lower it.

That was a "light-bulb" moment. I stopped propping my feet on the desk and my cane is now collecting dust in a corner.

I bought a cane a few years back. At rare times I may have a sinus issue, creating ear infections, etc. which can sometimes leave me a bit unsteady. The cane is very useful when this occurs. Not sure of the mechanics, but it addresses any minor loss of balance issue.

I don't need to use a cane or walker yet, but we have an aluminum cane if needed and a walker and wheelchair that we bought for my in-laws when they were living with us. On long walks in the woods my husband will use a walking stick, as he sometimes has issues with the muscles/tendons in his legs from old injuries.

I don't have a cane but should invest in one. I have a problem with my knee and never know if it may weaken more. My doctor did nothing for it...#$#$@@ doctor! I'm also getting a new doctor.

Not yet, knock on wood..I am doing better too since joining a gym, exercising and stretching make me operate better..I do have a walker and shower bench though in my basement that was my moms in law..I've kept it in case I should ever need it.
