Do you want to leave a legacy?

To some people the leaving of a legacy, is very important. To live on through their works and be remembered in history and legend. They cannot bear to be forgotten. I suppose it is a clutch at immortality of a kind. Kings, rulers, artists, authors achieve this as their works and deeds live on.
There are those who do great evil in order to be remembered - assassins do their deed in order to attach their name forever to their famous victim. Others do tremendous good.

So what drives this, can humans not bear to be for their lives to be meaningless?

This is an interesting topic to me.
I hope that our children and Grandchildren will have good memories of me and ms gamboolgal.
I worked in the Oilfields for 44 year and have no illusions that I will be recognized / remembered for anything.

To be remembered as a good man or woman who was kind, kept their word and was honest is a good thing and as simplistic as it sounds - is about as good as most folks can hope to do as far as being remembered, in my opinion.

We had evil visited upon us by a close blood relative and his memory will be forever tainted by the act/deed/crime he did. Although prior to the crime he was a good man. Folks can, and do make poor decisions, that can negate a good life before then. A single act at a point in time can devastate live(s) and cast a shadow on everything they did before that day(s)...

Kinda related to this topic. We lost our son, Jeff, on 27-Oct-19 when he was 34 year old. He died in his sleep. Found out it was Heart disease and no one knew about.
We established an Endowment at his Alma Matter, East Texas Baptist University, in Marshall Texas.

The Endowment provides Scholarship assistance for kids pursuing Christian Education majors.

We contribute additional monies annually. And upon our passing a % of our Portfolio will be donated to the Endowment.

Hard for me to put into words, but It is a good feeling knowing that his Endowment is and will continue to help kids to get an education long after ms gamboolgal and I have crossed over the Jordan.

I did contribute some of my old Oilfield Coveralls, Hard hats, and Oil Patch souvenirs, trinkets and paraphernalia to the East Texas Oil Museum in Kilgore, Texas. So there's that ... ha !

gamboolman...
