Do you wear a hat or did you ever?

I can remember when men and women all wore hats. Now, it seems only some men wear baseball caps, and women wear hats at times when out in the sun, and not for style...
 

Growing up on a farm, wore straw hats in the summer and felt hats in the winter. NEVER would you step inside someone's home or a church with your hat on!!! Soon after graduating high school, went to baseball style caps instead of hats. Work I was doing was not good for the wearing of a hat. Still wear baseball caps. Always have one on when playing golf. Usually have one on when working around the house, going to the store, etc. At work, required to wear a hard hat most of the time. When the "pot" isn't on, it's back to the cap.
 
When I was playing baseball or golf, always wore a baseball cap. Work required me wearing a hard hat but sometimes I'd leave it in the pickup. The rest of the time, I went topless.. :wink-new:
 
I love dressy hats for ladies. I wish they were more popular. But it seems there's fewer and fewer occasions these days to dress up, much less wear anything other than a casual hat.
 
Always wore a hat to church, womens heads had to be covered. I'll wear a knit hat in the winter when it's really cold. I'll wear a baseball cap when painting or doing something that stirs up a lot of dust.

My son wears hats, fedoras and such. Sometimes a kepi, Panama hat, he just likes them. Hard to understand, he has a beautiful head of natural curly hair but wears a buzz cut and often hats.

I doubt if hats will ever be as popular as they once were but I like hats on men. Not particularly baseball caps, but others. I have an old Stetson that once belonged to hubby's grandfather whom I believe, worked for the company. I recall growing up with a haberdashery in town-- it had been closed down yet the hats remained in the window. That fashion statement just kind of disappeared with the men from the last turn of the century as they aged.(1900's)
 
I have a full head of hair, like to keep it short, less upkeep. Wear a baseball style cap to keep the chill or sun off. Let's me make a statement of sorts. Growing up in the country everybody wore a hat, drove a pickup, toted you dog in the bed & had your guns displayed in the back window. No longer have my guns displayed or dog (he died), but I still wear my caps, currently one I picked up at our local Cabela's.
 
I always hated wearing hats, at church when I was a kid I'd wear a small 'chapel veil' as the mandatory head covering. I will wear wool hats in bad winter weather. Since my eyes are aging and I have concerns of macular degeneration, I've been wearing sunglasses more often and sometimes a baseball cap to shade the glare. But I hate every minute of it, never was comfortable with the feel of anything on my head (or face).
 
Having been raised a Catholic, we used to have to wear some sort of head covering in church. When they stopped making us do that, I pretty much stipped wearing head gear of any sort.
 
We almost always wore hats to church, at least up into the 1960's.

Speaking of hats....the old Dutch Patroons (like the ones you see in old paintings or on the Dutch Masters cigar boxes) of Nieuw Amsterdam (later New York) wore those huge black hats with the gigantic white plumes. The hats were almost never worn, just used for gesturing at things and in making sweeping bows. The only time they were worn on heads was when they sat down to eat. I guess there was just no place to safely put the hats, huh?
 
Maybe we need to go back to those courtly days, but I doubt that the Donald would give a swooping bow to Hillary, hat or no hat...:eek:nthego:
 
I think hats can be very attractive indeed. Sometimes you'll see someone with real fashion flair topped off with stylish headgear. When I was a teen I had a beautiful suede cowboy hat I wore with pride.

I have a whole collection of summer hats, always wear one when outside, as the harsh Australian sun can burn your skin to a crisp, causing permanent damage.
 
A hat was part of the uniform for the 2 years that I was in the Navy.
I bought a sombrero down in the Yucatan that is good for working in the sun.
I keep a baseball cap in the car for when I have the top down.
 
I wore a cap when I worked at the airlines and I still wear a baseball style cap when I run outside. I never liked wearing the pilot's cap, but United specifies that all pilots must wear their cap and coat when in public. For example; while in the airport.
 
Yes, and I ages with their dress code. It made you look professional and not like some bush pilot...
 
Yep, winter hat when it drops below freezing and LL Bean's sunhat when out walking in the warmer months. I have a feeling your question was about formal hatwear that a woman might wear at any occasion when dressed up. That was my parents' generation.
 
This is what I was wearing in 1953 at the county fair. I was a real hat nut when I was a little boy. One year I wore a pith helmet all summer but usually wore out a straw sombrero every summer. In the Navy I wore a white hat for four years. In later years I wore a white hard hat at work and a baseball cap or western style straw hat in recreation. Now it's a baseball cap when going out or a straw hat for yard work.

I have several hats to wear, one for the summer and a few for the winter. The summer one is straw-like but still nice looking. The winter one is wool (grey and tan) and the other one is crocheted and multi-colored.
