Do you write reviews of books?

I do, but only if I really loved the book and I keep it brief. That is just my nature, I like brevity. I don't write bad reviews of anything - I suppose I don't have the heart to be so cruel.
If I enjoyed a book I want others to hopefully enjoy it too. I like giving five stars to encourage and thank the author, authors are my favourite people on this earth.

So I truly marvel at people who write very very long reviews, virtually re-telling the whole story. How on earth do they have the time and patience? Sometimes they have hated the book but feel a huge need to brutally explain why! I couldn't do that, I just don't go on with a book if it doesn't get me fairly early.

So do you often or sometimes or never give a rating and a review?

I've also written reviews of books I bought on Amazon, if it helped others who are considering buying the book after reading what I wrote, thats good to hear

Brevity? What's that? :D

Is it cruel t write a bad review? I'd of said that it's cruel to read a bad book, and not let others know until they've paid out of their pocket for it. As long as you're not insulting, I'd say bad reviews are important.

In fact - I just about ONLY read bad reviews. Good ones are... well a person liked something, something I'm looking at because I probably think I'll like it too. So I don't really need the affirmation. But bad reviews are going to tell me some pitfalls, one's I likely have not anticipated. So yeah, it's about the bad reviews for me.

I had/have a book review blog but haven't updated in a year and a half (fell out of the habit) but I frequently read them, especially if it's a new series. A good review (in my eyes) is one that is able to straddle the line between giving a glimpse into a book without giving away anything. The best reviews are the ones where they talk about the good and the bad in the book, making it easier to decide if it's for me or not.
