Do Your Devices Seem To Have Minds Of Their Own?

Lately, my phone has been doing weird things. This is the latest, which is driving me crazy. I don't know how these got on there. They first showed up Sunday afternoon on my lock screen. They were not there in the morning. Sometimes they are on the home screen too. It makes navigating cumbersome.

My son fiddled with settings and apps and so did I. He did something after consulting AI and it worked temporarily, only after I restarted the phone.

Sometimes my settings seem to reset themselves. My ringer and notification volumes were all muted a couple of times over the past few weeks. I hadn't touched the phone.

I say I have a smart phone but a dumb tablet. The speech to text feature on that thing is ridiculous. I've seen it write the right thing, then change it to something else (and sometimes back again). Sometimes what it writes is no where near what I actually said!

What about you....any odd things happening with your devices? Do they do things you did not initiate?

My phone seems like it has been resetting itself so I didn't turn it off for about 3 days to see if it was the updates when turned off doing it. Nope
still did it, volume going down (yes I watched carefully I did not hold it near the volume control). The screen brightness, back to where it was in factory setting instead of a brighter screen so I could see it easier. Other things bugging me. I have not updated my phone in a few years so it creeps into my mind is this a game to get me to go get another one since this one is paid off. Then those dreaded ad popups began at different times.

I know some Android phones recently got a fairly big update, that trashed my custom settings, and made some apps look and act abnormal. Maybe Apple pushed out some updates as well, DW mentioned her iPad was a bit wonky.
Yes, I noticed the things I mentioned after the last update. Also some operations are now a PITA. šŸ˜–

I got my first ever "smart phone" on Fri. I've had an iPad for 10 years, so not a complete novice, but not anywhere competent or enamored with all the stuff it does. I'm using a cheap android phone from Tracfone. It's a good deal for me because the phone and 1500 mins or a year of service was $50. Not much data, but I'm not going to use it for that, and when I'm home I've got wifi.

The phone came with android 12 and on Sat got the update for latest security features spiel. I thought about it, but since I only had one day of experience how bad could it be...This is the point I regret that I have no liquor in the house.

Lots of annoying things, bloatware turned back on, a lot of the settings that were there it 12 just aren't there, but the absolute worst thing was it linked to my computer because of the gmail address, and some associated problems. At this point I REALLY regretted no liquor on hand.

As of now I've got the functions I want seemingly working, but if I like the phone enough and want to revert to android 12,I could just buy another one and swap the sim cards. I'm still leaning toward just getting a second flip phone, but I guess if I don't give myself a stroke trying to learn the damn thing, it's worth what I paid for the experience-- I guess, if I have to.

I'm sorry I clicked the laugh button. It's not funny. I meant to click the WOW button.

My android stopped showing a symbol when I get a new voice mail, so if I have a missed call, I have to check VM to see if they left a message or not.

It arbitrarily installs games which I have to uninstall because I don't want any games, new or old.

Android can be fickle, riddled with deviant apps. Basic Android is OK, but after Google corrupts it just forgettaboutit.

I use adb tools to strip all Google apps out of my smartphone and replace them with lightweight alternatives. It runs a thousand times better and faster. Unfortunately my work apps require Google play services and Google Play store so it is not completely ungoogled.

However, my Lenovo tablet has all Google crap removed and is still 100% functional. Takes a little work, but totally worth it.

I left a cellphone out in my car once during a medical appointment and it called my sister three times.

Each time, she called back after saying " ARE YOU THERE? CAN YOU HEAR ME? ARE YOU ALL RIGHT?" and then called me back with, if course, no answer.

So, I got back to the car to find several increasingly-distressed calls from my sister.

I've "butt-dialed" before but this time that danged phone wasn't ANYWHERE my butt.

It was possessed, I swear.

My phone suddenly decided it didn't want to take voice mails. Know how I found out? I called a family member and got my voice mail: "You...Have...Seven...New...Messages". Huh? What? Checked to make sure I hadn't accidentally forwarded my phone to his. Nope. So I just told my important contacts not to leave a VM, just text me instead. I could go to the ATT store (45 miles away) and see if they can figure it out but the phone is about six years old and the screen is cracked and I know they will insist I buy a new one. Forget it. No way.

IDK, sometimes I wonder if it's possible for electronics to get confused. LOL
