Does anyone do plasma for profit?

Organisations such as the American Red Cross, The NHS in the UK and more widely, the WHO in Europe operate on a 'goodwill' basis where no payment is given for donating blood or plasma. I don't believe that you are allowed to donate as often as twice a week here - more like once every 2 or 3 weeks.
On the other hand, health care here is free at point of delivery.

Payment for blood & plasma products is illegal in the 4 most populous Provinces in Canada. There are no pay for blood products facilities anywhere in Canada even where there's no legislation against it. Some blood products are imported from the US by Canadian Blood Services.
There is some media chatter at the moment about changing that due to short blood supplies but almost certainly if it became legal, many current donors would likely stop donating their blood through the current 'no payment' system which would clearly increase costs for Canadian Blood Services but would likely increase supply.
