Does anyone still have a cafeteria in their town.

I spent a lot of time in hospital cafeterias when my husband sick. Some of them were very good and the cost was reasonable. They were many older couples that came every day for meals. They enjoyed the choices, they did not have to cook and clean up. You meet many interesting people when you are there so much.

No real old fashioned cafeterias around here that I know of. By that I mean ones where Someone behind the counter actually served all the main and hot dishes and one could pick their own dessert plate. Some of the buffets and salad bars may have a server for an item or two, but mainly just replenish the self serve dishes.
I remember as a child going to the Automat on a trip to NYC. Just eye-popping for me, haha.

In my small town we have just one cafeteria, the similar old-time booths
and sitting counter, it is always packed full mostly. Well adored by our
town~

There was one in Worcester, Mass. When I was first out on my own, I ate there a lot. One day, I sat next to Haystack Calhoon, the pro- wrestler. I used to see him on TV. He was monster size.
i remember haystacks calhoon! my grandfather was a MAJOR wrestling fan... swore it was 100% real when even us kids could see it was faked.

I miss Lubys around here and in the home town (Dallas, Austin, Waco, Corpus Christi, etc.). Years ago, there also used to be Piccadillys who were also very good.
