Does the Bark Match the Dog?

Something amusing about my pups is how different they are in personality and voice. Sophie has a big bark, even a squirrel on the lawn and BARKBARKBARK BARKBARKBARK. Her secret is that she is afraid of her own shadow. A manic bark but if a stranger gets too close she'll freeze and wet herself. Callie is fearless, any sound and he's right on it. But it's like a linebacker with a chipmunk stuck inside.
I watched him today in the yard. Something had him worked up. He was standing against the fence, hackles raised, almost foaming...but he sounded so pitiful...aroooo arooooo
arooo arooooo. For all his brawn he sounds like a grumpy poodle. How about your dogs? I've seen Jack Russells who can clear the dog park. Guess some pups are just more vocally gifted than others.

I have a friend who has a huge dog, Heinz 57 variety...part bear, part badger, part alien life form. He looks like someone's worst nightmare. He was a rescue dog and had a throat injury so, for lack of any other description, he "squeaks". He gets all worked up and it's "Chirp, squeak, warble....."; every one laughs and he stomps off in a royal sulk. You can tell he's deeply embarrassed.

Cats are a bit the same.We used to have one that had a very loud and rather hoarse meow, more of a wail, and another , a large male cat who had a high pitched chirrup.I suppose they are like people in this respect, we have all kinds of voices, some surprising ones!

The cats fuggedaboutit...Levon and Boo together can't weigh ten pounds. Who have the meows that can shatter glass?

There is a basset hound down the street that has a HUGE bark and sounds like a tank. Bonnie, my pit bull, doesn't have nearly as scary a bark as that basset hound. Bonnie has bigger teeth, though, and she can really put on a scary face. :)
