Does Your Town Offer Free Meter Parking During The Holiday Season?

Free meter parking on Sunday and federal holidays in Central City.

The city and shop owners tried extended periods of free meter parking in the days leading up to Christmas several years ago and found that it was quickly gobbled up by people working downtown, it actually made it more difficult for shoppers to find a place to park.

Metered parking downtown—3-hour meters charge $1.50 per hour and accept credit cards, debit cards, and quarters. The 10-hour meters charge $0.50 per hour. Meters are monitored Monday through Saturday from 9am to 5pm.

Metered parking is free Monday–Saturday from 5pm to 9am, all day Sunday, and on all federal holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth National Independence Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day following Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

Don't let your meter expire! It's a $25.00 ticket.

I almost forgot what a meter was. Haven't seen one in years.

By the way, if you park, see the meter cop coming, and put quarters in expired meters as a good samaritan, how many lashings do you get?
My husband actually did that one day. He even put a quarter in the meter where one of our neighbors, who wasn't very friendly to him, was parked.

It's interesting to see how many respondents don't have meters! @Bella the difference in the cost of 3 hour and 10 hour meters is surprising. Not the same thing but it brings to mind that some cities are now offering meters that allow you to pay via an app on your phone. If a driver is stuck somewhere and can't get back to the car on time, no problem. Just add money to the meter via the app. I was with my son twice when he used it in Atlantic City and Newark, N.J.
