Dogs and Possum poop

Why do dogs do this? This morning I just happened to catch Sparky rolling in possum poop. I ran over and grabbed him and hosed him off. Gross! I'm lucky I caught him before he went in the house. It's my fault for not checking the yard first thing today.

An even better observation: Some dogs eat poop. They even have a name for it: "Coprophagia."
One theory I've heard is that the dog is trying to get nutrients missing in it's diet.
I was surprised when I visited a ranch. A horse made a big pile of poop & 3 chickens (or roosters) ran up to the pile & started eating parts of it.
I was thinking, "Hmmmm, we eat chicken." :giggle:

Yep, the chickens are eating the grain that went through the horse & didn't get digested. Seen that a lot with our chickens & our poneys.

Most beagle dogs will eat poop. I have one that I give "For-Bid" to that stops her from eating her poo, but if I take her to the vet I got to watch walking in so she doesn't get some other dogs poo.

I did have another older dog that I also had to give the For-Bid to so Rosie would not eat their poo. Vet says that's normal for dogs to eat poo as they think they missing something in their food even most dog food is fully balanced unless you buy the cheap stuff.

I have to buy special Vet-approved dog food for Rosie, at the Vet want $105.00 for a 40 lb bag. At Chewy.com & get it from there for $92.00 a bag. It will last 2 months or more.
