Domestic Goddess Chili

Prep Time
: 10 Minutes
Cook Time: 20 Minutes

2 lbs. ground beef

1 cup chopped onions

1/4 cup chili powder (Yes, I stated 1/4 cup of chili powder)

2 teaspoons minced garlic

2 (15-oz.) cans tomato sauce

2 (8-oz.) jars taco sauce, mild or medium

2 (15-oz.) cans red kidney beans, drained & rinsed

shredded cheddar cheese, to garnish chili

tortilla chips, to scoop up the chili

1.) Cook ground beef in a Dutch oven over high heat; stirring to break up meat, until no longer pink (for 3 minutes).

2.) Add the onions; cook and stirring until translucent (for 2 minutes).

3.) Stir in the chili powder and garlic; cook one minute.

4.) Stir in the tomato sauce and taco sauce. Bring to a boil; then reduce the heat, and simmer (uncovered) for 10 minutes.

5.) Stir in the kidney beans and heat through.

6.) Top each bowl with shredded cheddar cheese, and scoop up the chili with the tortilla chips.

7.) Yields: 8 to 10 Servings.

8.) Note: This recipe states to add 1/4 cup of chili powder, and yes, that's exactly how much I put in my chili. And to play it safe, I "would not" add more than 1/4 cup of chili powder. I used Tone's Chili Powder "NO MSG".

Mmmm, you can't beat a good bowl of chili, especially when the weather gets chilly. Anyway, thanks for the recipe. I have made it pretty much the same, but I have never thought to put taco sauce in it, so I will have to try that. One thing I have done different though, is to BBQ the burger just like you would when making hamburgers, then dice them up to start off the recipe. It gives the meat a little smokey flavor, and I love it.

The only other ingredient that I have used is Johnsons Chili starter. It has a fantastic flavor, but it's extremely hard to find. The only place I have found that carries it now is Raleys, and there isn't any where I live, so if I do happen to be near one, I buy several.

Bobcat, the chili powder your describing sounds interesting.

Actually, it's not a powder at all. It comes in a tub about the size of cottage cheese. It's in the frozen food section, and I have discovered that, not only Raleys, but Safeway carries it as well. It's just hard to locate, so you have to look close, but you have to try it at least once to understand that you simply can't get that flavor without it, or at least I can't. Anyway, something to think about.

That looks so tasty!! I am lazy, I just use one of those little packets for seasoning. Here in Texas they say it is a crime to add to chile but I like to add pinto beans to mine. Of course I throw in a little extra, diced onion and garlic. I also like it thinner, almost soup like.

It is served with a good amount of shredded cheese. In my house it was always fritos for dipping!!

Blessed, I told my husband, the next time we happen to make Domestic Goddess Chili, we need to purchase Fritos Scoops! To scoop up the chili.
