Donations for clothes for prime minister?

I see the British prime minister will no longer accept donations for his and his wife's clothes.
I didn't know they ever got any - money for that purpose that is!
I'm sorry they do not have enough means to pay for their own clothes. Who gives donations for that purpose anyway and why?

Actually, I could do with more money for clothes, I can only get something new when I can afford it - definitely not designer items.

Clothes can be expensive, but if you have a cabin built, fill it with modern sewing machinery, have antique sewing machines displayed for effect, don't forget a cutting table and tailor's model. Then all you need is a talented artiste, with a magic wand and lengths of fabric are turned into amazing items, like this one:

This is her attempt at tailoring, she makes most of her own clothes
as well as shirts and trousers for me, but my jackets, is, as she so
eloquently put it: "Not her forte." Looks good to me.

of course they don't need donations for their clothing...

Did you also know that despite them cutting the £300 heating allowance for pensioners this year.. each and every member of parliament get over £3,000 heating allowance, on top of their already high salary .. yep that's 10 x as much as the Tax paying pensioner was getting..

And did you know that the government has legislated for an increase from 66 to 67 in 2026-28 for paying state pensions, and to 68 well before mid century?

Never to say I told you so, but..

lol.. they're not literally getting donations of clothings.. they're getting supposed cash donations to buy expensive clothing etc...
”it was revealed Lord Alli, former chairman of online fashion retailer Asos, paid for a personal shopper, clothes, and alterations for Lady Victoria Starmer both before and after the Labour leader became prime minister in July.”

I haven’t a clue if our leaders or their spouses are provided an allowance or are given clothing provided by designers. I can understand the designers hoping to have their clothes on display.

I can understand a dress designer wanting the PM's wife to promote her fashions by wearing them in public. Samantha Cameron always looked very glamorous thanks to her clothes.
However having clothes given as gifts could be seen as bribery.

It actually is a form of bribery in my view, also of advertising. It just seems wrong somehow.

Ditto. Most of my clothes are from value village, which is a thrift store or Costco.
Patty. I think you should do a look up about what Value Village really is. It is a huge corporation, that makes millions of dollars per year in both Canada and the USA. It's shares trade on the New York Stock exchange. It is not a charity, at all. Read this link about a court case in Alberta, involving Value Village, and the Judge's ruling.

Yes! I haven’t been to value village since you told me this and to be honest I forgot.
Their prices jumped up quite a bit also. I’ve found new clothes with price tags still on with a value village price tag that’s been even higher, so it’s clear that’s they aren’t willing to give the best price. It also shows that they aren’t doing a great job of checking out the stock they have to sell.
Thanks for the reminder though.
