As far as making your home "digital" and attaching the ability to open your doors to a computer network?

Uh...NO. That would be a no for me. Zero reason to give a hacker an ability to enter your home, when a simple, basic lock, with no electrical component and no connection to the internet will work just fine.

Intercoms....sure.

But don't let those companies sell you extra services and attach your locks to any computer network.

Generally, I have found Consumer Reports to give accurate descriptions of the best products out there.

I have the video ring doorbell.... which not only allows you to see whose at the door even when you might even be in another country , much less sitting at home, but it also allows you to talk to them too, as if you actually were at home

No one I'm not expecting gets to my front door. They'd have to climb over a tall locked gate & if they do that, I'd know they were intruders & would be dealt with appropriately.

We have a video doorbell camera. It supposedly activates automatically; it sure doesn’t. We have very fast internet. If this camera ever quits, we’ll buy a new type.

I’d love to have some extra cameras to go with our security system. The door isn’t coded to open through it. It’s a manual lock with codes that can be changed easily. Besides our codes, we can give them to family or to let an emergency person in if we’re physically unable. This was one of the best household purchases we’ve made. No more need to carry a house key either.

Were happy with our Eufy system. We have 3 cameras. Back porch, one on the chimney to observe walkway & side entrance, one in the front to observe driveway & a door bell camera with voice. The system is set up to be viewed on our cell phones if were out & when home, on our Echo show to visually see who is at our front door. All cameras & door bell are wireless. Plenty of advanced warning when the batteries need recharged.

The system works very fast so all in all we are happy with this system.

I've got a Ring doorbell but it isn't fast enough to catch today's carriers.
They are miles away by the time my phone buzzes!
my phone video pops up when someone comes near the door, and if I'm here on the computer the window opens up, so I can see who is either there or whose just left because the lens is wide angle... equally if it's windy my hanging flower basket sets it off.. or the rose branches around the door blowing in the wind

In theory my doorbell is supposed to do the same as Holly’s. It pops up immediately but takes about a minute to see who is there and for us to reply. By then they’re gone.
