An investigative report on the big business of drug rehab facilities and programs in Florida. The business is apparently ripe with fraud, kickbacks, over charging, death and prostitution. Not only are the addicts taken advantage of so are people paying including insurance companies.

Florida put in place many laws to make drug rehab cheaper and more accessible. Before changes rehabs were running about 10K a month. After some of the over charges include $600,000 for a 6 month stay, $10,500 for drug tests, $27,000 for a 3 day stay. Labs were billed with samples from staff. One patient's insurance company was charged 1.2 million dollars over a 15 month period including one month with 172 charges. One man took kickbacks so his daughter would stay high and be readmitted with his insurance paying. A county said there are increasing number of drug overdoses at these facilities in patient or sober living houses in the neighborhoods.
Third party reimbursement perpetuates inflation and abuse pure and simple. Wether it's medical or car insurance somebody else is paying for it syndrome will infect someone. In the meantime some of the longest standing rehab programs are free like AA.
