Dumpster

If you have any "hazardous" things to get rid of, look for recycling centers in your area. Electronics, for example, must be recycled, in most states, rather than being put in landfills. Empty plastic gas cans, in fairly good shape, should be resalable, for a couple of dollars, at a garage sale, etc....given that new ones cost at least $10. Old paint is worthless....dig a hole in the backyard, and empty the cans.

Deb,

Have you spoken to the dumpster folks directly?

I would think that your situation is fairly common. It seems like they should be able to offer some guidance on how best to dispose of the various types of trash.

Another option would be to hire a clean out company and let them deal with it. It won’t be cheap but they will provide the labor and it will be done in a day.

Research and make sure your hazardous waste goes to the right place. Also any electronics. I took an old non working boom box and printer to a place in my town that takes old computers. There was a small charge for the printer but they took the boom box for free. I think they use them for parts.

Please don't dispose of anything toxic in the garbage. Do you have a Habitat for Humanity store near you? They will take usable paint I believe.

When I lived in St Petersburg, the local Best Buy took computer stuff.

Also watched a youtube vid where some couple took a bunch of old cell phones - working and non-working - to a Walmart, where there was this machine that paid cash for them.

Preserve our planet - avoid landfills when possible...
