Eddie Van Halen dies, age 65

Eddie Van Halen, the all-American guitar hero who, with his namesake hard-rock band Van Halen, redefined the sound and possibilities of the electric guitar in the 1970s and ’80s, died on Tuesday at age 65. The cause was throat cancer.

After David Lee Roth visited him, he reported that Eddie was in very bad health.

We are big fans of Van Halen, especially when David Lee Roth was lead singer. My wife really loves their remake of the Kinks song, You Really Got Me.

Eddie kicking that axe and David slamming that mike made the band. In one of my numerous mid-life crises I let my hair grow out like David's and used to air mike their songs. Well I was out there until my wife told me to cut that crap off and get back into the world.

This will always be my favorite cut.
