Eek Another Mouse

So I'm on the phone and my Dad is grousing about his neuralgia. Suddenly here is Callie and a small furry thing wagging it's tail in front of me. Sophie has a monster prey drive and there are six cat loaves in residence. Before anything nasty happened I directed my daughter to trap it and release it as far from the house as possible.

Very old house and I know there are many mice in residence. But really, the dogs, the cats, the remains of family? You think in their mousey brains they would find a more inviting home ya know?

I'm afraid it's a problem we have in the country. Touch wood we've stopped them getting into the house, but they're a problem in the garden. We do set traps and the local birds of prey help to keep them down. However, I don't go in for the notion of trap and release. My traps kill them stone dead!

After baiting my house, the ceiling and the back verandah, I no longer have the mouse problem. I've scooped up a couple of bodies, and had to hit one very sick one on the head before doing that.

A few years ago I had a dog that would just jump up and down on the darned things, then bring them in to me while they were still alive.

No way I would release a live one back. They're vermin and there's no way they're going to be let loose.

See I have a soft spot for rodents. It's weird to some people but instead of a dog I was allowed gerbils from a young age. My daughter has a pack of white rats. Very friendly and well fed...tennis ball sized some of them. The only thing I can smash to bits are centipedes.

Mine, too. The only traps I've really had any luck with are the old fashioned snap traps -- the problem is putting them where the dogs can't get into them.

Oh Fur! I love rodents! I have had hamsters that I loved very much. I used to use bait for mice then I thought about what I was doing and who am I to end another beings life?! They have just as much right to be on this earth as me. I started using a box that would collect the mice alive and then I went to the woods and let them all go and boy were they happy! It was nice to see so much appreciation from the mice. They are really cute little ones. Had them as pets as a kid, too.

Even spiders, if you're out of sight I'll let you be. But slugs in the summer get flushed and centipedes are too nasty for words...everything else we can get all Gandhi about...

I will kill spiders. I am spider-phobic. I feel guilty, but that doesn't stop me. I don't want to be bitten by one.

I kill roaches, too, but i hate doing it. They can't help being roaches and, like mice, they have a right to live. Thank goodness I don't see them like I used to -- one a week has been average for the last few months. Yes, I assume the spray has killed them, so that means I'm a hypocrite.

I don't like killing things, but will kill mosquitoes. Spiders I trap in a yogurt container and send outside. There were mice in one place I lived once, but they fled when they got a whiff of my cats.

I have ants and kill a few every day. I can't seem to get rid of them. I've put down bait. I will kill nuisance bugs, I don't enjoy it though.

Okay the ants come every summer and I pour poison and hot boiling water into their outside nests. But they come in everywhere. I guess there's a difference between ant and cute and furry.

Yes, there sure is. Cockroaches are worse than ants, though, they are gross and not cute at all. Maybe someone has a heart for the bugs but I don't.

It's cute, my best buddy has a heart for spiders. He had several tarantulas so it make sense. He always catches even the nasty looking ones and lets them loose outside.

I am pretty sure that most houses will have mice - especially if they are close to fields, gardens or parks. They can get through ventilation spaces and worn mortar joints. We just don't know they are there since they spend most time under or above us. :)
