Egg laying chickens

My guess is depression due to being alone. Maybe this will help.

Egg production
Hens begin laying at around six months of age and can continue for five to 10 years with peak production occurring in the first two years. They will lay roughly six eggs each week. Egg production drops each year when the hens molt (replace their feathers in the early fall) and as daylight hours are lost.

Perhaps she's too old. Did you get her as a chick or fully-grown? I think they have no more than a 3-year period of laying eggs.

I remember at my great-grandparents' farm, old hens who weren't laying were destined for the stew pot.
Thats what my grands said too and they made great chicken and dumplings!

2 years ago, we obtained 4 egg laying chickens. 3 died in the meantime while the last one now lays eggs only occasionally. Does anyone know what is wrong?View attachment 277421
I know nothing about chickens except that they taste good. Some days I wish I could raise some but I’d most likely name them and treat them like pets which wouldn’t be good for either of us. I hope you find your answer.
