Another tragedy in the hands of a young gunman, who killed himself afterward.:mad:
"A 20-year-old gunman had killed an elderly shopper at a Bend Safeway on Sunday evening and was still shooting up the supermarket when an employee engaged him, potentially putting a stop to what might have been a far worse attack, police said Monday.

In a news conference, Bend Police confirmed that the shooter was 20-year-old Ethan Blair Miller.

The two victims in the attack are Glenn Edward Bennett, 84, who was shot near the front of the Safeway, and Donald Ray Surrett Jr., the 66-year-old employee who attacked Miller."

What's the deal with all the supermarket killings? Not enough people gathered somewhere else? I think I'm gonna stick with curbside groceries. I'm not going anywhere I don't have to anymore. This is just too much.
It is much Marci ! We shouldn't have to worry about dying when we're out and about doing everyday, normal things!

The Safeway employee who was one of two people killed in a Bend, Oregon, supermarket shooting had time to flee but instead hid behind a produce cart and attacked the assailant with a produce knife, an action that likely saved lives, authorities said Tuesday.

Surveillance video shows that 66-year-old Donald Ray Surrett Jr., a two-decade U.S. Army veteran, waited in his hiding spot until the gunman looked the other way. Surrett then emerged with the knife that he drew from his hip, police spokeswoman Sheila Miller said.
The gunman, identified as 20-year-old Ethan Blair Miller, on Sunday evening fatally shot Surrett and then killed himself as police closed in. Officers found an AR-15-style rifle and a shotgun near his body and police said he had four 30-round magazines for the rifle on his body when he died.
Surveillance video also shows two people going back into the Safeway as the shooting unfolded to pull out the other victim, 84-year-old Glenn Edward Bennett, who had been shot just inside the store's entrance.

Authorities also confirmed Tuesday that the gunman had worked at the Safeway for a short time in recent years; one high school acquaintance told The Associated Press he saw him gathering up carts in the parking lot in 2020.
The shooter lived in an apartment complex behind The Forum Shopping Center.

He fired shots into his own car on Sunday evening as soon as he left the complex and continued firing as he entered the shopping complex’s parking lot and then went into the Safeway. Bennett was killed at the store’s entrance, police said, and the shooter then moved through the aisles “spraying shots” from the assault rifle until Surrett confronted him.
Police entered the supermarket from the front and rear as shots were still being fired. The entire incident, from the first 911 calls to the gunman's suicide, lasted just four minutes, police have said. In addition to the guns in the store, the shooter had a sawed-off shotgun and three Molotov cocktails in his car, police said.

Oh what a handsome young man! His grandpa is, too! I'm so glad he didn't get hurt.

We'll never know the whole story on these situations but we do know they all had easy access to guns and so very many are in their early 20's when schizophrenia usually strikes. Shooting into his own car sounds like someone who is hallucinating to me. Help for the mentally ill and gun control seems like a way to start on this problem.

His eyes just looked tormented to me. I just read that the girlfriend said they used to drop acid, together then he went to California and "came back different." Yep, a good way to mess up your brain is do a whole lot of LSD. It's all just a shame to me. The home owner shot him twice in the arms so the boy turned and started running off. Then the man shot him in the back. That last shot was unneeded if you ask me.

yes I agree.. doesn't sound like there was any need for the fatal shot... . The neighbour was also confused even after the hysterical mother was screaming that they'd had to shoot him because he was trying to get in the door.. he kept repeating.. yes but he had no gun...

Oh well it's Moot now.. given the shooter has been found not guilty..

I have a feeling when I'm waiting for someone to answer the door I have a fairly dead expression. I don't know what "crazed and psychotic" looks like, but I would expect it to be the opposite of dead.

So the guy ranted and posted threats online/ social media....... against a school that will most likely start soon .... yet no one at school ..... was alerted..........

he use to work at store ..... fired perhaps ?
mental issues and aggressive .....start a fight person since High school .....according to many people coming out of woodwork to talk about gunman
is it me or was his neighbors and/ or former classmates all coming forward to say things about his love of guns and temper ...... but did not bother BEFORE this happens .......guess if you see something say something is just a cure phrase........

i think that is because when people are reported they often become hostile toward those who turn them in. they likely don't want to get shot. it's a mess anymore.

i think many times you can and should report anonymously ...............
how ever
i find it aggravating that they all seem to pour out of the woodwork to list all the one time he did this stories.......
it would be better if the media did not report "yes he had issues for YEARS but people looked the other way."
