Electric company called and said I am overdue paying my bill

It was a recorded message. I can't see how my bill can be overdue when it's up to them to make an ACH withdrawal for my bank account. I called the company and another recorded message said to leave my number and they would call me back That was almost 2 hours ago.

The electric company may be open since they called, unless it was an automated call.* However, most banks are closed for Coumbus Day, so you may have to wait until tomorrow to talk to them and you probably should talk to both parties before deciding how to resolve this.

*Sorry, I just noticed you said it was a recorded message. [edited]

My electric company does not close for Columbus Day, nor most other businesses. Banks and post office mostly. Even Wall Street is business as usual today.
My electric company doesn't close either ,but she can't very well fix this until talking to the bank first. I guess she could, but I would want to speak to the bank since she said it's set up for ACH withdrawal.

Deb is in New York. In Texas, we can pay electric bills by ACH. And from SCE's website, scroll down to where it says "Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) / ACH / EFT"

The caller ID indicated it was the company. Also, I looked at my account on their website and it also said my last bill was past due.
Do you have online banking so you can check your bank account to see if a payment was withdrawn? Online banking information is available whether the bank is open or not.

Many people are concerned about online banking and won't get it. I felt the same, until statements the bank mailed me were "lost" in the mail. At that point, I decided I wanted my information online, not floating around ending up in someone else's mailbox.

FYI the caller ID can be spoofed to show whatever the caller wants it to show. I would agree with those advising to call the actual company using a trusted number for them, to get the actual 411 on your specific case. :coffee: Don...

The dates of their ACH withdrawals vary from month to month. In June it was on the 12th, July on the 11th, August on the 14th and September on the 9th.
Using those dates as a reference, we are not that far into October that the provider should be showing you as past due this quickly. You said in June it was paid on the 12th. Since the 12th of October fell on a Sunday, and today (the 13th) is a holiday, no withdrawal could be made on either date. Maybe tomorrow when you can speak to the bank there will be a reasonable explanation or "fix" for this.

I've never heard of a utility company calling. Plus today isn't a business holiday. They usually send a letter. I would be leary about that one and go online.

Our electric company customer service personnel are observing the holiday is what it says online so whatever.

Methinks the fault isn't with the bank, it's with the power company.
Most posts imply the call was fraudulent (not truly from your power company). I don't think so myself, but we don't know. In your post #13 you said you called some automated system at the bank and it indicated no withdrawal has been made (for October) and in another post you checked the power company website and it showed past due. . . but if the withdrawal was scheduled for a non-banking date between 10/11 and 10/13, then it will not post to your account until the close of business 10/14.

Anytime I have an issue like this to deal with, it's all I think about, but in this case, there is little choice except to see what the bank tells you tomorrow.

I'm currently going through something similar. I did a Walmart cancellation and my refund hasn't hit my bank account. Both Walmart and my bank says it was refunded. I got a copy of my recent transactions and it's not there even though they say it is. One or both of them screwed up and they won't do anything.
