I always thought a hurdy gurdy was a merry-go-round. :shrug:

Note: This piece of equipment stores music samples. Around 2:10 the artist presses a switch and uses his feet to keep the notes he played on a loop.

 

My late husband had and played one but not one quite that complicated and definitely not with that level of skill. That guy is really going to town on that thang.

I could never keep up the rhythm on the crank while trying to concentrate on the fingering, but then I was really never good at stringed instruments (or doing ANY two things at once). I played folk guitar in college but then, hecky darn, ANYBODY could play folk guitar in the 1960's. If you knew three chords, you could strum about anything. Four chords and you were in business for sure.
 
Must take a lot of practice and a good sense of rhythm.
