Electric "Smart Meter" Installed Yesterday

My doorbell rang at 4pm. It was the electric company tech saying he was going to install my smart meter. I was a little miffed since I received a post card saying I would be notified by phone the day before. I told the guy to wait while I shut down and unplugged my sensitive electronics in case there was a surge. This could have been done ahead of time if I had been alerted. I also could have been dressed as I was not expecting company. I mentioned that I was not warned ahead of time to the technician and he said that he had finished his assigned jobs early that day and was going around to do the others he had time for.

Anyway, turning off my electronics was moot since there was no power loss during the installation.

I've had a smart meter for many years now... No problems, much easier than having a meter reader come or having to manually send meter readings to the company

I usually read the meter myself and emailed the reading to the company. They did send a tech to do it 3 times a year. Probably to see if I was sending them accurate readings.
