Emojis

You were right. (And anyone can write anything; I didn't read the article so maybe the author is saying something else.)

I've always taken the heart emoji to mean "love" — in fact, if you hover over the Like button/link in a post you've written and then hover over the heart, it says "Love".

You/we are all correct, the "Red Heart", does mean Love,
the "Pink Heart", means Girl Power!

So I read.

Mike.

I never use emojis because I cannot work them out. I use clear words instead and not shortened slang ever. I'm too old - I believe in just saying what you mean. No need for heiroglyphics!
Some younger people speak purely in images these days.

In a book called The Emoji Code, British cognitive linguist Vyvyan Evans describes emojis as “incontrovertibly the world’s first truly universal communication.” Emojis “convey this additional complex layer of meaning that words just don’t really seem to get at,” according to one cognitive scientist. Other language experts dispute that characterization, and say that emojis are making us, and our communication, dumber.

What is your opinion?

I go for dumber, words are better.

Mike.
