You were right. (And anyone can write anything; I didn't read the article so maybe the author is saying something else.)

I've always taken the heart emoji to mean "love" — in fact, if you hover over the Like button/link in a post you've written and then hover over the heart, it says "Love".

It all depends on the context and where it is being used. For example and can have very naughty meanings on some contexts. Here, it just means we've been food shopping.

True. I've seen those in both contexts. Just not on the same platforms.

You/we are all correct, the "Red Heart", does mean Love,
the "Pink Heart", means Girl Power!

I never use emojis because I cannot work them out. I use clear words instead and not shortened slang ever. I'm too old - I believe in just saying what you mean. No need for heiroglyphics!
Some younger people speak purely in images these days.
